After replacing the rocker cover gaskets with the newer type, I replaced and rerouted the vent line so there would be no kinks - still I am getting pressure in the oil tank - the cap really tries to pop off when checking the oil right after a ride.
I was advised by a dealership that the oil tank pressure is what creates pressure in the rocker area - which ultimately causes oil to blow past the gaskets. At least my gaskets last to 6,000 miles. Anyone else up on this topic?

Sounds like too much oil in the tank. My S2 pops the cap out of the tank when it's overfilled.

oil level? (I know, rookie question, but even experts make rookie mistakes sometimes)

umbrella seals in the right location? breather hoses (the ones that went from the heads to the aircleaner orignially) unclogged and free flowing?

Does any oil get pushed out the vent tube?

I had, a long time ago, the crank seal go bad and build up pressure in the primary drive area causing oil to spew from the breather tube off the back of the engine. That happened around 22k miles.

What you dealer said about the pressure in the oil tank is tripe.

Make sure that air is coming out of both breathers in the heads. If you were just in the heads, perhaps the umbrella valves were installed wrong?

My primary-crank seal lasted to 40K. A seal failure wouldn't pressurize the oil tank.

Simple things first, check to see if your running too much oil. I've done this, so have a lot of other people. Usually after over filling and then running the engine to temp.

I had that same problem on my M2. It had too much oil in it and was coming out of the breather. I just put a quarter past the bottom line on the dipstick and it doesn't build up pressure.

Thanks guys - now that it's been brought to my attention - I guess I do tend to fill the oil tank sort of close to the top. I still go by the mark on the dipstick though, and that seems to be somewhere around an inch from the top of the oil tank - I'm saying that if the oil is about an inch from the top, then the stick reading will be on the full mark.
I guess I need to let the oil level run a little lower in the tank and see what kind of pressure, if any, that creates. I still don't believe the oil could be recirculating so fast that pressure is created just from that - especially with a vent line as long and as large 3/8" I.D.)as the one that's on the bike.

Yeah, I check my oil only when my bike is HOT. The oil then only touches the very bottom of the dipstick.

I use the bottom mark on the dipstick and use the long filter to get a little capacity back.
