I had the same idea but made mine from stainless steel and then polished it. Tooke me about 9 hours total (lack of the right tools at the time). I have a friend who now sells a copy of mine on ebay, but they don't fit the early steel swingarm.

This pic is from 2003 when I first made the part for my bike

This pic is from spring 2005 after 2 months of removing and polishing parts on my bike.

I made a lower belt guard for my '97 S3. Have a look.

I love the look of the polished belt guard but hate to lose my fender to install one. Granted the fender is a cheesy flimsy thing but in the rain my underseat area already fills with water, without a fender what would it be like?

Den, I don't have that problem. The S1 doesn't really have a place that holds water under the seat. I'm not familiar with the X1s.

Koz, love the look, but I don't like shiny things on my bike. To time consuming to upkeep.

Ara, looks good and light, but will it keep out any rocks? I took a rock down there and it tore my belt clean in half. I put the upper guard on there because my passenger’s foot was rubbing the belt.

As requested, here are some more pics of my bike from a couple years ago right after I changed it over from yellow to black:

And this one is more recent with crossroads handlebars, painted dash bezel, and custom made mirror mounts designed by Shazam:

Cereal, I made that lower belt guard five or six years ago. No rock problems yet - that's the original factory belt and it's still on the bike. It's a hard aluminum alloy, 3/32 inch thick. It would have polished up very nicely, but my bike is all black like yours and I thought it'd look better in black.

I put the upper guard on there because my passenger’s foot was rubbing the belt.

That is the only reason I have one on my bike. If it rains, I take the Jeep. My bike was strickly a toy for me so I like it all polished and shiney. Up keep is pretty minimal actually. I clean it about once a month (about 1000 miles) or if I have it in a show. This year it has seen alot more use due to better weather and rising gas prices.

Shiny?

Uh, I like the wrinkle black, flat black, and carbon black on my x1....

For some reason I have alwys had something against shiny stuff. It makes me think about teh posers running aournd, that put 100 miles a YEAR on thier bikes...I can do that in a day..if I worked 12 hours....

But thats me.
