I am all ears on this topic. I am trying to fab a new design to the tail of my bike and have no idea where to stick the plate. One idea I had was to attach it to an actuator so it would drop down when I turn the bike on and "hide" when it is parked. | ||

Actually, I dont see an issue with that, as long as it was wired to come on with the KEY, not the engine kill switch.... So, as long as the key is in the park, or on position, the plate is down....with, no other way to "hide" it while the bike is running... So, if you get pulled over, you use the engine kill switch, to turn the bike off, untill you are done, flick it back down, and off you go, no one is the wiser... But when you are showing it, it is up and hidden... I could be wrong, as I dont know every minute detail of the law... Chase | ||

i hung mine just aft of the oil tank (between the tank and the seat release screw). the bottom of the plate angled slightly forward so when the tire hit it it would just get pushed out of the way. (this happened often enough to rub the paint off the plate!) it looked really nice for the few months i had it, until a cop pulled me over and gave me a "fix ticket"... now i run the banke kit. it looks nice, but i still wish there were an alternative that wouldn't get me pulled over. | ||

ill get a pic of mine soon, used a clear sheet of lexan and it looks like my plate floats behind my bike...looks trick! | ||

I made my own banke type mount out of polished stainless.   I like that pic... Notice any difference on the M2 dash??? The new tail I am working uses a stock tail section with the tail lights built into it removing the entire black plate and light mount off the bike. It is part of my winter project plans for this year. I just have to figure out where to hide the plate. | ||

Saw the coolest license plate mount on a work in progress Buell chopper at the Smoke Out this year. Definitely cool, but I don't know how well it could be integrated into a real Buell. Here's some pics of it:   1313 | ||

koz,, damn man the reflections off that thing are gonna blind me,,, she looks sweet.. ya gotta turn a couple heads with that girl... cant wait to see her with that new front sprocket cover.. and if you dont go with a bigger rear sprocket and want to stay stock size pm me,, maybe be we can hook you up with a polished version of mine.. got two black ones sitting on the dinning room floor right now.. one goes to my second rear end set up.. the other well,, who knows,, 1313,, that plate mount is awsome,, love ingenuity mine is pretty much like koz's, you can see it in the profile pick. but now it may have to change,, you boys got me thinking.... | ||

Oldog, It's hard to notice because it is parked in the grass, but the surface for the plate is slightly raised from the 'stands contact with the ground. My biggest concern would be lighting the plate (which is a legal requirement damn near everywhere), but I would think with the powerful LED's available today the lighting could be made near undetectable yet functional. On a side note, how come whenever I want to typing lighting I type lightning? Must be a Buell thing... 1313 | ||

you would be better off hiding the light "leds" in the area where the plate swings up to .. no real sense in lighting the ground,, that is unless you want the cool "ground effect" lighting when its parked!!!,, what about mounting the plate off the rear swing arm but partly inside the rear rim,, dont know how legal but it may look cool!! unfortunately that all adds to unsprung weight too. | ||

true: did not think about that if the rails that protect the plate were big enough or use pipe then slot the top one for the lamps(led) saw some led turns on a ricer wern't to bright but it would work for the tag. from Honduras, a long long way from the porch the ol dog (Message edited by oldog on August 09, 2005) ground effect, have to ask koz about that (Message edited by oldog on August 09, 2005) | ||
