My neighbor's got one of those, since I am always in a state of paint, either adding or removing, I just sit and watch, envious, Tubers especially those S1's are the bitcheness bikes out there.

Outdate.....Compared to the XB, they're outdated.

But a 2003 GSXR1000 is outdated compared to the 2004 model. Same can be said for most bikes made within the past 5 years. The technology and affordability has been surpassed a number of times over during that time.

Will I own an XB framed Buell...most likely.

Will I sell my tube frame Buells....most likely the Blast, possibly the S3T, NEVER the S1W.

Here's to the tubers...may they live forever:

At the Gap

Tubers are outdated like 1967 big block Corvette's are outdated. I think the tubers have excellent styling, clean and naked, look better than the XB's. I am prejudice too fer sherrr.. I like the SW1 and S2 and of course am partial to the X1, mine looks very much like this with a little more chrome.

Is that X1 missing the swingarm support from the sprocket cover?
Or is it behind the fairing?

Behind the fairing, dude.

I didn't know mine existed until I pulled the fairing off.

NEVER the S1W

You can even ride that bike with out hurting yourself, yet you insist on keeping it
I think you would better off keep them and adding to the stable

Squires Coffee Bar, Sherburn-in-Elmet, Yorkshire last Wednesday eve. Hundreds and hundreds of bikes coming and going constantly. I've seen everything at Squires over the years and it appeals to a very broad spectrum of bike fans of all ages and persuasions on any day of the week. You can just as well find a an old Brit iron or three parked next to a GSXR1000 or a Benelli Tornado parked next to a Honda 125. It matters not. That said Buells are scarce and last Wednesday evening the only Buell parked there by far got more attention than any other bike. Mind you the Buell in question is holding up well as one of the greatest S1W's alive today.

Like I said, I love mine...

I think I feel performancewise (including reliability) the bike has surpassed by the XB line at this point, which is good! That is what a company is supposed to do. I think the look and feel will never die though. I just rode mine into work tonight and even after 3 years, I LOVE freeway on ramps! I also go the pleasure of passing 20+ harleys riding as a group. I used the right lane so my exhaust would be pointed at them. I love watching there heads snap sideways when they hear me pass them...

Well I spent lots of time polishing, sanding, building parts, and getting dirty to make it look like that.

One thing about the tubers compared to the new XB line, I think they poish up better. Yeah, I have seen Miatso's bike and it looks really good, but I think a new XB12X would be hard to "doll up".

Live music, ribs, even a breakfest before we ride. You can come see the expanded shop! (we now have three shop rooms and 4 offices!)

Tubers outdated......eh?

I think not.

A prominent and unnamed non-Badweb sponsor has mine and is going "full boat". I got the "here are your options" call yesterday and it took the better part of an hour.

Decision was made, based on end play that was within limits be leaning toward the outer limit, to do the entire bottom end with the updated parts, pieces and so forth.

Clutch gets swapped for some 8-bolt affair and the primary chain (cheap to replace) goes in the garbage pail.

We started at 55HP and we'll see where we end up. Pure HP is not the name of this game and I specified "it's done with all it's coast-to-coast runs" and I expect to log no more than 1,000 miles per year on this bike.

But, even with two new Buells on the way, you can bet the S-2 is the one that is ALWAYS fun to ride.

The tube frame Buells, in addition to being an interesting chapter (technically chapter 7 if you must know) of motorcycle history and remain just plain fun to ride.

Court,

after declaring for years that the M2 was the best motorcycle ever built, where do you rank the XB12x next to it?

(if I am wrong on that quote please forgive me)

First, as a clarificasiasion. . . my quote has been and remains:

quote:

"The Buell M-2 Cyclone is one of the best motorcycles ever made and I can prove it"

With regard to where the XB fits into the "BIG" picture, I'll say this for now.

  • The XB platform moved Buell to an entirely new era.
  • The XB was out for more than 30 months before I ever road one.
  • When I did, I learned that looking at the XB tells you nothing about it, riding it tells you in seconds.
  • I was able to resist the XB
  • No so the Ulysses

The best thing I have to go on, thus far, are the words of Steve Anderson and Reg Kittrelle. Both these gentlemen are skilled writers/riders for whom I have enormous respect. They see the world of two wheels through decidedly differing perspectives. Melding their opinions say much.

Listen.

I think I shall be aboard a Ulysses soon enough. Till then, unlike most the free world of the internet, I am going to reserve rash opinions and revel in what appears to be THE ELVES greatest success....to date.

It could be argued that requiring an hour to go through the "desired mods" list is the definition of outdated.

I won't argue that though. I'm the proud owner of an M2, which I enjoy telling myself is the "best motorcycle ever made."

I think they are ALL outdated, and anyone who owns a pre-2000 Buell should send it to Rob's Resthome for Outdated Buells. I will give them tender loving care for the remainder of their days.

Just a little word from a xb driver,
I had my eye on a x1wl one of the last ones,
Had all the mod’s in my head, you know pro series, oil cooler, technoflex shock , pvm double disk brakes, Ram swinger, you know the works,
I could have drove away with it, but the sales man showed me the new brochure with the firebolt in it..
Man I was sold.. had to wait 2 months for her…
Finally when I got here, I was happy as a dog with 5 legs,
true,
there where times I regret, I didn’t buy the x1wl
Especially when the cut the prices on the bolts over here ( written off 5000 euros the first year and a halve )
The tubers seams , at least over here, hold there value better.
And being one off the first here in Holland, I was feeling a little like a guinea pig, little or no parts in stock,
Never heard off a drummer back then ; )
But looking @ my little bolt shining the evening sun, I will keep her till I’m to old to get my leg over
But to make the point,
I like it to be a bueller, I like to help other buellers the best I can , as they help me out
And I like the history off the brand, a tuber ( S2 or S3 is still on my wish list )
Tubers will live on for ever, there still the icon off the brand , a least in my mind
Never forget your past, and embrace the future
