Hi:
I'm Jim Bryant AKA Ol'-Dog
I have recently had the good fortune of having
Aaomy make a special part for me

I added a set of 1.5" HD mini gauges to my buell and wanted them on the dash I made up a small aluminum bracket that was put on stand offs While this is what could be done with what I had it's not what I wanted.
What I had in mind was an aluminum dash plate with the instruments in it
I had made a drawing of it but I lack the tools to do that job Aaron O Aka Aaomy gave am a hand with it

here is the original setup complete with the factory billet dash and the bracket for the oil pressure and temp gauges
original setup
I contacted Aaron about this project he was quite happy to help me with it, I had been watching his posts on the stuff he was making for his S2.
After a call and some notes back and forth Aaron made a prototype from a cutting board for me face it 3/8" billet plate is not cheap
not your average cutting board
This arrived quite soon after the discussion started. The fitup was good it gave us both a chance to see a rough version of the part what was suprising was how well the work on the prototype was done it was quite close
test fitts
There were a few issues and I had to make some minor changes, What was great was working with Aaron He was as enthusastic as I was about it
taking shape
we wound up making small adjustments to positions
and I had to add some information for the various counter bores that have to be cut in this part to make it work properly, in these photos the "dash" is spaced up 1"

After the proto type was made and checked, We worked over the details and then started discussing the finish, most billet stuff you want polished, the dash is the exception the factory unit is "Grained" and is shiny actualy a bit too shiny if the sun hits it just right its glare city, I asked Aaron about blasting it, with a masked logo. He asked me about its border
( there were more suprises to come )
here is the back and front, the large counter bores are a result of my hip shooting
the prototype and the part back side

Aaron and I discussed what I thought would look good, and he hand engraved the border of the pegasus logo leaving it shiny (as milled)
the front of the new part

the front side turned out better than I expected
the instruments all fit excellent I was able to mount the dash on the tripple tree as the original was, this eliminated the need to extend the wires from the warning lights

Heres the finished mounted dash

job is done

Thanks Aaron I could not have done this with out your help, "Good Job"

Hey, I have a Aaomy custom billet part too. He made a longer shift rod for me. Not much, but it makes me feel special!

The dash came out great. Aaomy sure has a lot of energy.

Interesting dashes. Odd that this thread would appear now - I'm in the middle of doing a dashplate myself. Mine will eliminate the steel handlebar clamp/instrument mount. I don't need the clamp feature with the Crossroads bars I just got.

Nice !
What is the gauge top center? I like the WHITE face! What is the red thing by the speedo?
a switch cover?
Thanks for your compliments to Aaron, he deserves them.
JIM
Dj good luck with the dash, post some pix

Dawg -- center guage is an oil temp clock -- Phatom line from Autometer, chosen to sorta kinda match the stock clocks

red thing is just what ya thought -- switch cover liberated from a Huey, long ago and far away

Aaron does very cool work -- I am but an egg, in comparison, but I'm havin big fun!

I am but an egg

Yep, a Dinosaur Egg. However, you redeemed yourself by including a clock in your overall scheme of things. You must be someone important, eh?

Just teasing as I also like the symmetry of your dash and the switch is an interesting added touch.

the clock left the craft without permission form the jumpmaster (dang it) -- considering an inexpensive replacement (them motoclocks ain't cheap)

important? not at all. Late? Often ;-}

Bomber: I stuck on old Timex on my dash with velcro. Can't shake it loose.

Of course, if it were an expensive timepiece, it would have fallen off the first time I took my eyes off it...

I'll likely do similar, thang -- gatta find a black one with a white face, don't I? ;-}

btw, story behind the switch cover would go well with a couple of cervesas . . . . .

Aaron, Jim, sweet piece....

My one question, can this dash be done to work with 2" gauges, aka, autometer phantoms... pressure and oil temp... if not, I would settle for a single gauge(ouil pressure)....

I am no good when it comes to working with this kinda stuff....

HINT HINT Aaron....

Anyway.....

Bomber If you ever find youself in Wilmington NC you got'em. I think you said that it was an "aircraft" part, Possibly of the millitary variety? Could this have any connection to your'e chosen "name"?

Chase If you want the "excrements" for your sled
I will re-post the install for you, Its fiddley to do but usefull, I think the dash will have to be spaced WAY UP to fit the 2" clocks not to mention you may have clearence issues thats why I asked Aaron to make the cutting board

My instruments are HD 1.5" You may want to look into Autometer stuff, somewhere I have seen smaller gauges besides HD just cant remember where I think it was Autometer.

I had to get the HD gauge backs too, the dimmentions will have to be altered to suit.

If you want I will send you the cutting board
to fiddle with.

PM me with your address it's yours
Chase the billet will cost you about $100.00
I asked Aaron to use 3/8" like the factory part
and figure he would have several hours in it minimum .............

dawg -- I'll put you on the list of petntial brew providers {grin} -- always good to know where to find a cold one, yes? aircarft was a Huey, which I used mostly as a taxi to and from the office, and, once or thrice, as a thrill ride ;-} I was not a crew member, as my pair wasn't nearly large enough to qualify!

name derives from my first civilian 4th of july when my new buds were too broke to afford fireworks -- I giggled, went into the kitchen, bathroom and kitch pantry, and, zippo bang! field expedient fireworks!

Autometer goes down to 2 or 2 1/8, if memory serves -- mebbe smaller, these days . . . .. check Jegs or Summit catalogs on line -- they'd have em if anybody would

I did not polish it at first, but could not resist with so many other parts on my bike polished. So far, so good, the reflection has not been noticed at all.

I also attached some of the billet axle adjusters that Rippin also made. they are nice in that the axle head is recessed and only need one wrence to loosen rear wheel.
