Planman and CalBuell,

Beware, your Nuclear Blue frame and wheels may frequently be called "purple" by non initiates, what an awesome color, goes well with everything!

Try not to let it get to you...

Both the box and scoop are white.

I thought the X1w had white wheels.

This ebay guy has a 99% positive rating and has recently started selling a lot of carbon fiber:

Did any of you buy from him?

I doubt your X1 has had different cams installed. It's just that most Harley guys don't realize that an X1 comes with some pretty decent cams as compared to a Sportster.

Your bike is not a X1WL. A X1WL had special decals and a blue header.

Planman,
With the race ECM the X1 can be kinda cranky about starting when ambient temp is below 40ish, or at least mine is. The other thing is there's no cold fast idle with the race ECM so you'll have to do it yourself for the first minute or so. By the way I love mine, it's the only bike I've had since a Dunstall 810 Combat Commando that makes me laugh in my helmet and just go out to the garage to look at.

I've got a 02 X1W ( white frame, white wheels, white plastic and blue header) now with race ecm, and D&D. Super LOUD, but I dig it!! Only prob I've had was burning out speedo sensors, but one of the guys on this web mod'ed me one that has out lived 2 from HD. Now with 8k miles I'm starting to have a little breaking up off idle after 50 miles or so. Figure it's a temp or O2 sensor, just haven't tracked it down yet. Good luck with your X1, you've got something unique.

Thanks for the feedback.

I can't imagine going into this bike without the information I have gathered from this website and the X1 Files website.

Holy crap! Another Montana rider. A mere 4.5 hours away no less, we're practically neighbors. Welcome aboard Planman.

Thanks Rob!

The difference for us is that 4.5 hours away as neighbors is a mere 300 miles. To some of our Buell "Brethren," 4.5 hours means across town during rush hour.

>>>To some of our Buell "Brethren," 4.5 hours means across town during rush hour.

Painfully true words as just last week my boro was declared the WORST commute time in the world at an average of 90 minutes.

There are days I have spent 4 hours making my 18 mile drive home.

Funny to think I can drive, under good conditions, for 2 hours and still be in the same city.

By the way, I've spent some great seat time on an S2 in Montana and envy you guys!

I just bought a 2001 x1 with 1100 miles on it.

So far i put 130 miles on the bike. Everything seems cool but I hear a little bit of lifter or cam noise sounds low so far...... Bike was dealer serviced a few times, was owned by long time biker and wife made him sell. Basically the guy played with it for 4 years and put 950 miles on it.

What do you think? Chain maybe that loose? A bot of cam noise with this bike?

edit:

did a search and seems like this noise is normal due to cams. I need to get my hands on a service manual now. Now I wish I hadnt forgot so much about the sportster motor as I have : )

My cams don't make noise. Maybe your lifters are gummed up.

I have a 2000 X1 and it doesn't make any ticking sounds. Check your primary chain. Also the adjustment shoe on the primary might be killed. Mine didn't die but others have had theirs break off and jam themselves in the chain causing a cracked case.

Wow very few guys I have seen say they have no valve train noise.

Actually my bit of noise seems to be coming from the valves opening and closeing, the noise is even and the same on each head. Not very loud just noticible with a stock muffler. If a vance and hines it would be hard to hear it then. Id be really worried if one was makeing more than the other or one was and the other wasnt. I havent ran a compression test yet but the bike performs excellent in town and on the interstate. Yeah I havent checked the chain yet, fluid is good though.

I have valve train noise on my M2. You may also want to check for and exhaust leak at the end of the header pipe.

Mmmi_grad: if you have added an after market breather system, you may hear more noise compared to the stock bread box. When I added my forcewinder it was noticably more loud, than before.
