I bought a factory race kit for my 99 X1 at the time I bought the bike. The kit is still in the box from the dealer and I need to get the kit installed in the Sacramento area. I have a few questions.
1. How much should this cost approximately?
2. Can I install everything myself and just have the dealership reset whatever they need to reset with the race ECM?
3. What are the best Sacto area dealers to deal with on Buells? Sacto, Rocklin, Folsom, Vallejo?
4. How long does it take for the dealer to install the race kit?

Many thanks in advance for any responses and suggestions.

I can't answer the dealers questions but I can say that installing the race kit yourself is quite easy. Take your time with the exhaust and tighten the bolts backwards. meaning tighten the muffler first, then the muffler to header, then finally the header to the heads. The ECM is just a plug in deal with 2 screws to hold it in. You will need to take it to your dealer to have the TPS reset. But you probably can ride it there it just might run a bit rough. The air cleaner is real easy. Just pull the snorkle, install venturi ring and place new K&N in.
