Being a proud grandpa of 4 girls and 3 boys, I have found they each, as they Pass two or three years of age, are exposed to childhood diseases in elementary school from those who actually go there. I am particularly susceptible to the swollen gland, feverish, burning headache, coughing tons of mucus, ear infections of the youth. My Dr has been impressed that I still get it at my age. Well, time to call him to discuss treatment for it again. Been down a week now. Swollen glands just popped up tonite. Right now, I'd have to be doing twice as good to feel like shit. Ow! Mot&£€£%÷$#!

Cute little petri dishes.

Paint your tonsils with iodine.

I travel for a living. Used to travel for a living to hospitals. Nothing like riding around in pressurized petri dishes breathing the recycled air of 140 of your closest friends. I swear by Airborne tablets. Chew 4-8 a day. It will amp up your immune system. Vitamin D is also a must have. Most folks "of a certain age" are Vitamin D deficient. It is the yin to the yang of vitamin C, plus it'll help with bone density.

Eww. What Fats said, plus niacin, fresh OJ, hopefully a big dose of Spring soon.

Vern; get a 5 gallon bucket and fill it with every cold remedy known to man. Take them all, and if it doesn't kill you, you'll start feeling better in a week to 10 days.

Whisky. Seriously. Sip 1 oz as you watch TV in the evening. GOOD whisky, not Jack or any bourbon blends. It'll burn it out of you. +1,000 on Airborne, and the chewables are actually pretty tasty (the effervescent water-mix stuff is NASTY). I keep a jar of the Nature's-whatever Vitamin C gummies on my TV table next to "the chair". Eat 'em like skittles in the evening - helps curb snacking, and loads me up on C. If I eat too many, I pee in technicolor - so it's fun all around!

Too many vitamins are bad for your kidneys if not followed by copious amounts of water... which you SHOULD be drinking any way. I'd rather have a cold than a stone. Mmmmm... Coldstone.

That's one thing I learned in the hospital in '08 - I'm never more than arms-reach away from some vitamin water. Generally house-brand MIO alternatives at work (liquid squeezie-bottle concentrates) and Propel powder at home...but that stuff is becoming its own food group for me.

Have you seen Ace Ventura Pet Dective II? The witch Dr in there could likely handle my flying mucus condition ..... Sha-cocca! No question where I was exposed and when. My turn to watch her came with a yellow bubbling snot factory. She had been to the Dr and got her meds, but was infectious. I do need more C. Mostly I need sunshine and 80 degrees. I need an 80 degree Uly ride.

Change brands. I recommend Laphroaig, or Bunnehabbain. Or if you like vanilla, try Knot - more liqueur in reality, but still a single. Another outstanding single is Suntory Yamazaki - mmmmm, good.

Ewww... scotch! I can't do most of them, but Oban is OK. Tried some of the Japanese whiskies, they're interesting, but the bourbon whiskies are best. +1000 on needing sun and warmth!!

Just got back from Dr visit. Would likely not have got better without it. Two shots, not from a glass, and a week of two pills a day coming up. Shots had me feeling better within a couple of hours. Doc said the good thing was getting care before it spread to the lungs. I hate being sick.

Finally! I can see with 1.6 semi uncrusted eyes, and I can hear back to 70 percent of my normal 70 percent. I think I going to live! Now to again figure out why! And finally.....the Sun has come out! Have a great day everybody!

Awesome, Vern! +1000 on getting to the doc- we've got a close friend about your age that ended up with double pneumonia, coughing up blood before he called 911. He firmly believes the paramedics saved him. Get your aiss better before the end of the month!

Get the pneumonia vaccine. Kids are plague rats. ( but you don't hit them with sticks like in the game ) I was lucky to have a job where I was exposed to a planet's worth of disease, but pediatrician offices were still deadly. I have stories.

Getting well enough to go for a walk in the neighboring town last night. Just walking around looking in some shop windows after perusing a local moon juice distillery two doors down ..... Live on stage 60 feet from the storefront windows of the new Ole Red in Gatlinburg Tn. Somebody said they thought we were watching Blake on a screen. Nope. Live just like being there.
