I see only one yellow (reactor yellow) listed for paint codes. Is that the only yellow ever used? I have a 96 S1, there is a 99 M2 tank on the bay, interested in it, but damn if it's not darker than the yellow on my bike. Which one is reactor yellow, the bike or the tank?   | ||

Not sure, but a 99 M2 tank won't fit that bike- Maybe you already knew that and you are getting it for something else? Kilroy | ||

It won't? A 99 M2 is just a carbureted Manta Ray tank right? A Manta tank fit on my 97 M2, I just assumed it would fit on a 96 S1. Am I wrong in that assumption? | ||

By the way . . . the S1 in the photo is HIGH VOLTAGE YELLOW not Reactor Yellow. | ||

man, I'm glad Court is around here. Now I need to find the paint info for High Voltage Yellow. Wasn't it PPG that did the paint for Buells? I know it is around here somewhere. I will search a little later.....thanks for the info Court | ||

I guess what I should have said is that it is not the same tank, not necessarily that it won't fit. Look at some of the pix under the Old School Buell section and look at the profile of the M2 tanks. There is no "notch" about midway up the tank. It might fit but it definitely is not the correct tank for the S1 Kilroy | ||

The 95 and 96 maybe 97 too (I don't have thei info in front of me) were Sikkins paint, not PPG. No current paint code matched. The reformulated abcn in 1999 or so. No cross reference to the old paints. You'll have to have it custom matched. Brad | ||

In addition, one of the Painter Elves is now painting on his own in the East Troy area and knows the colors/formulas inside out. The paint codes are all here on Badweb somewhere. CAUTION: We screwed up with the High Voltage Yellow in that it was quite unstable. It was prone to inconsistent fading from piece to piece. That is the reason that when we went to work on Molten Orange that Mike S picked a population of "possibles" and we took a bunch of old tanks and painted . . . just like Noah's Ark . . . two tanks of each color. One of each color went into a old darkened paint booth and it's "color twin" to the roof. Periodically the two were compared to find out which showed the best fade resistant characteristics. One of the reasons that MOLTEN ORANGE tends to STAY Molten Orange. And now you know . . . . . the rest of the story. | ||

hey guys, picked up an 96 S1 but tank hans not been painted, I heard there is a special primer needed to use before painting bcz of gas vapor seeping through tank causing the famous bubbling. Plan on painting all plastics and don't want any issues with the tanks paint down the road....Anyone have some experienced input??? Thanks in advance- Joe | ||

So I got my 99 S3 almost 2 years ago and the tank shows no signs of peeling or bubbling. This may be a dumb question, but here goes anyway. Does that mean the tank was sealed when painted, or is the paint allowing the gas fumes to escape? I am asking because I want to add the 3d Buell stickers that are missing unless this will cause bubbling issues. Appreciate the help. |
