Hey guys, I've got a 03 Buell Blast I've had for a while and I just noticed today that there appears to be an excessive amount of oil leaking out of the right front fork. I wanted to try and replace the seals on it myself and I have a manual that has all the exploded diagrams and such in it, but it doesn't explain the HOW, just the WHAT for everything in there.

My question is this, do you guys have any suggestions for things to do before tearing the entire fork apart, and if not, are there some big mechanic tips for doing the work that might be useful

I did the forks on my 2007 firebolt and it really wasn't that difficult. Just make sure you have a good tool for compressing your springs and to drive in your new seals. I made my own fork spring compressing tool out of PVC but I bought a universal seal driver from cycle gear to make sure my seals were seated in my forks properly. I also watched a lot of you tube videos of people doing their fork seals before I dove into mine. Another big tip is to make sure you have an extremely clean work environment and that you clean all your parts thoroughly. I also put plastic baggies over my fork caps and preload adjuster when I loosened then and when I tightened them back down. This prevented any unnecessary tool marks. Anyway, just take your time, clean ever thing really well, pay attention to the manual, the order that you remove items and measure your fluid properly and you should be good to go
