So i left my bike out in the driveway and i drizzled a little over night. Now my head light isn't turning on and the high beam light indicator stays on constantly in the dash. I also just installed a preprogrammed racing ECM, so not sure if that has something to do with it. Do i need a new fuse or something? If so, where can i get one?

Your issue is a bad ground connection under the flyscreen. When you swapped the ECM, you may have disturbed the main ground connection that bolts to the fairing stay.

So it sounds like i just need to tighten some screws? I swapped the ECM a few days before this happened so so hopefully you are right. I'll give it a shot.

Thanks!

Ok so i took the fairing off and the headlight unit. Tried a bunch of things, reconnected whatever was plugged into the headlight and also cleaned and reconnected the torx screw connecting the 2 ground wires to the frame. Still nothing. I also swapped the fuse with a replacement and still nothing. This didn't happen immediately after swapping the ECM. It was a few days later after leaving it out in some drizzle. One other thing to point out (not sure if his is normal not). Before this happened only one head light worked on the low beam setting, then 2 worked on the high beam. Anyone have some ideas? I've had the bike for less than 3 weeks and now I can't ride it at night! Please help!!

Take the headlight bulbs out and connect each one separately to the battery in order to see if the bulbs are defective or not.

If the bulbs are working then probe the headlight sockets with a multimeter set to read +12VDC. If you get 0 VDC then the idea is to trace the wiring back through the wire harness until the proper voltage is found which should reveal a broken wire, bad contact or component.

Thanks, very helpful. So both of the lights do work. I test/traced the wire back to the high beam switch on the handle bar and the upper most wire connected to the switch didn't work. Not sure where to go from there. Does that mean i have a bad switch or what?

Also, does anyone have a shop manual for a 2009 XB12R? If so it would be great if you can upload it too google drive and share it with me - grocd3@gmail.com
