I put new plugs in it. The old ones came out completely black. The bike came with extra oil. Only negative was it was in the bike. Been riding around without the muffler for a week or so because it cracked near the header attachment.

This weekend after a cold start it burped a couple times then died. Haven't been able to get it started since. O2 sensor is not hooked up due to a broken wire that I just found while changing the plugs.

It turns over just fine, but doesn't even try to fire up. Anyone have any suggestions before I submit to the dealership?

Fuel ok?

Spark ok?

Not good to run around w/o the muffler. Certainly not for your neighbors

Do not use any throttle (thinking you might be a new owner) when starting. Let the computer give it a "rich start" and let it warm up from there. Unlike carb'ed bikes, fuel injected bikes don't like any throttle input to start.

Were it me, I would get the service manual and the electrical diagnostic manual (you need both on the '08 and up models).

While waiting for those to arrive, I would have the muffler repaired and install it, and fix the O2 sensor. And any other issues found along the way.

After confirming I had fuel and a fully charged battery, I would pull the plugs, and using a known good sparkplug, I would turn the engine over and confirm I had spark. Good place to start.

If you 'blip' the throttle at start-up, you may have fouled the plugs, causing the problem of no start.

If still problems, the service manuals have excellent trouble shooting guides.

Pull the plugs again and check them, they may be carbonised from an over rich fuel mix, it can happen really quickly!! Even at idle, or should i say more especially at idle.

Fix the O2 sensor, it's there for a reason!

Also it's not clever to ride without the muffler cos you're likely to burn valves or hole a piston or both.

Once the exhaust starts extracting without backpressure from lack of muffler, it draws fuel from the combustion chamber which results in a superheated flame front which then fries everything in it's path,given enough time.
