Remove the dipstick/fill plug on the swingarm. Remove drain plug on bottom side of swingarm to drain oil into a pan. Examine o-ring on drain plug for damage. Remove chin fairing to access the oil filter and remove it. Get oil all over hands. Fill new filter at least 3/4 full with new oil with correct viscosity/rating and install to tighten properly (I think 2/3 turn). (Almost 3 quarts are required, I think.) Reinstall drain plug and tighten. Add oil to swingarm until the dipstick shows about 3/8 - 1/2 inch oil on it (don't go to the full mark as it will be over full) while on the side stand. Start engine and ride easily until the engine reaches operating temp (about 10 minutes depending on ambient temps). Recheck and add oil until it reaches the FULL mark on the dipstick while on the sidestand. Point is don't overfill the tank!! |
