Okay, another in the endless series of "Newbie" questions I have asked. My I.A.T. Sensor (See Pic) appears to be covered in black gunk and bent.  Is this normal? Should it be cleaned and if so, with what? It seems to run fine, but then again I don't have any baseline to compare it to. This is the only Buell I've ever ridden. Maybe I shouldn't have started taking things apart and just rode blissfully along unaware of any potential problems. Hope it snows for at least another month so I can put everything back together. Note: The Saran Wrap around the engine is not to keep it fresh till spring. I'm just removing 7 years of accumulated corrosion and dirt off of the Rocker Covers and Pipes. Trying to keep the polish away from the Flat Black paint.  | ||

The IAT is a soft wire, so being bent is no problem. The black gunk is no problem either. Ride and be happy. | ||

It is recommended that the IAT be cleaned gently with a cue tip ( ear thingy) dipped in alcohol to remove build up. Do the crankcase hoses still vent to the inlet on your bike? If so there are a number of catch cans available to make your bike run better by letting all that gunk go into a container rather than in your motor. | ||

Thanks Bombadier, Jflaig is probably right, but if it doesn't hurt to clean it I will. Yes I am still running the humongous stock bread box thingie that hides half of my beautiful engine. Saving my pennies for a Forcewinder or similar such intake. I'll take a look on the site for catch cans. Thanks again. Gary | ||

Relocated the sensor to behind the flyscreen and this has resulted in a better running motor. |
