well I received my mikuni cables for my S1W and the throttle cable is too short.....I'm thinking I need to slightly shorten the tube where the cable mates to the carb to give me a little more cable to play with.

this is the new style mikuni and the cables came from American Sportbike....they said there was something to be done to the bracket on the carb, but perhaps someone here has already done this.

is this common and am I thinking correctly here ??

The stock cables usually have the opposite problem, and the ones that I sent you were the MotionPro cables specifically for the Mikuni. So you might be right, someone may have adjusted the bracket to make the stock cables work and that is making it not work for the Motion pros.

The adjusters are screwed all the way in up at the throttle grip?

Yes they are adjusted all the way in.

The carb is brand new and nothing has been done to the bracket. The cable is just 3/4 of an inch too short from letting the attach point for the cables on the grip be straight up. This makes it impossible to close the 2 halves together.

I can see why folks would bend the bracket to gain some cable length but then the angle from the bracket to the pulley is changed and I want to have the smoothest throttle action I can get with no binding(this was the reason for my carb change)

There is a step in the alignment cylinder where the cable goes into the bracket that will need to be drilled out and then I will cut a 1/2" off the cylinder and see if that gives me enough cable.

Al, I appreciate the help and perhaps you could relay the info to Motion Pro that the cable is too short....this may save someone else the hassle I am going through.

This is definitely not plug and play but neither is it the end of the world.....just more hassle than it should be.

The cables I got from you for the old style mikuni worked fine and these will too after my mod.

I'll try to take some pics for you

Chris

O.K. the mod allowed me to set the ferrule notches on the grip at 2o'clock, this was enough to allow me to get everything buttoned up.......however......even though with the notches at 2o'clock where the idle cable should have to be screwed all the way in to allow for the extra length it is screwed all the way out and the idle cable is still very loose to the point it does nothing. : (

It seems as though the cable that was installed in the sheath for the throttle cable should have been installed in the sheath for the idle cable and the one in the idle cable should have been in the throttle......... Pro Motions fault not American Sportbike's.......oh well at least it's raining and I can't ride anyway.

I'm sure Al will take care of me somehow.
