About a week after purchasing my Buell I went for a road trip. Unfortunately I did not bring my how-to manual with me. At the end of my trip the oil cap blew off under the seat making a HUGE MESS. So thinking a buell is set up like any other bike. I went to drain te oil under the crank case. All the while I was trying this I was thinking to myself "Boy this oil drain plug sure does look different. And why is there a locking nut on it?" I am not a total idiot when it comes to bikes, but this was one of those moments that was rally embarassing to myself. Luckily I was alone! Long story short, I ended up changing the oil but the primary chain was now way too loose. With the help of you all here, I was able to easily fix that.

You are not alone... I heard of at least two cases where people did what you did, but didn't figure it out. I don't get that, as it must have occured to them that they only drained out 1 qt of oil, and only added 3 oz to bring it back up to the right mark on the dipstick... but there you go.

The first one made it two laps on an empty transmission cavity before the tranny siezed. I think the second person made it most of the way through deals gap before the welding began.
