Im not sure what RPMs my bike can handle. I know its not make to cruise at a hundred but i ge the feeling anything over 65mph(3k RPMs) is too much to hold. Engine feels fine, its just a feeling i get. By the way i have a 00 M2 with 11000 trouble free miles.

Yea 100MPH isn't one of the sweet spots, but I can assure you that the typical tuber motor will cruise all day long at 4.5K/5K RPMs and all you have to do is stay out of jail.

There's a very sweet spot at 115MPH.

Thanks BIG. I thought it could take it. Just wanted to hear some one else say it. I want the bike to last forever so I prolly wont push it...good to know i can tho.

I've got the '02 model and it's never been babied. I still ride it regularly and two of my kids beat on it often. It's had the rear bearings go bad (Greased Lightning works great when you need to remove some grease, but keep it away from bearings,) speed-o sensor, and fork seals. I think that's it,,,,a bunch of tires.

My mechanic just told about an s2 that needed a complete upper rebuild cuz the guy ran it from tenn to tex at 85 or 90. It did have almost 40K. He told me running at that speed, that long breaks the oil down

I use synthetic & don't worry about the oil.
I try not to run below 3k, though do drop down in traffic & riding in residential areas. 4k all day? no problem. Sustained 80+ is no issue on a tuber....except for possible jail time.

Kevin,your mechanic is incorrect,I have run my S-2 through the ringer including numerous runs wide open at Bonneville getting Henrik and I into the 130 club. They can and will do 85-90 all day long. But run it lean of out of oil and you will be in trouble.

I've gone hours on end at 80mph with no issues at all. Any higher and the bike does start to feel strained, though. Oddly enough... I have a 1978 Z/28 Camaro with factory gearing that revs higher on the highway than my Buell does.

Mine is a '96 S1 that has seen regular high rpm use. I've read some horror stories on here about tubers with 15K top end rebuilds and 20K bottom end replacement and didn't believe it. Now I'm at 22,500 and am at my second top end and first crank rebuild!

That said, don't beat on 'em too bad and they have the potential to last a long time.

I didn't go out of my way to avoid high RPM's on my M2, and it was still running strong with 27k miles on it when I sold it.

I wouldn't spend 6 hours straight on the autobahn right at the edge of redline... but for normal street driving that won't get you arrested on short order, I think you are fine doing what you want.

Reepicheep pretty much says it.

Like any motor, if the throttle's constantly pinned it's not going to last nearly as long as it should.

To reiterate, they cruise at 85-90 without breaking a sweat.

I've pretty much hammered mine every time I rode it and it's broken my wallet.
