Can it be done? Has anyone else considered this? Aside from probably having to switch out the front suspension and brakes (both acceptable improvements), what other possible or actual impediments are there to putting those slick new rims on a tube framed Buell? Is weight going to be a concern, are the new rims strong enough for my M2's weight may be a dumb question but I don't know. Also belt concerns? New belt, front and rear pulley's? Is it feasible to put the new rims on my bike (2000 M2, sort of) is the basic question, then how much will it cost is the final one, if you guys think of various concerns other than I've listed... I'd like to try and put a price tag on this possible project. Thanks -Mike | ||

I saw a picture of it done here somewhere, looked great and I think the owner said it ran great. I believe they did the whole triple tree to make it "easy". | ||

Swapping out the front end should be no problem. Swapping just the front wheel could be a problem but the only thing I can think of is that you would need a custom aluminum adapter bracket to hook up the XB caliper to the tubey front fork. On the rear wheel swap the only thing I can think of would be the outter wheel spacer thickness if Buell has changed them. If not it should be complete swap out. You will have to use a tubey rear caliper and bracket as the XB caliper has no provision for belt adjustment. I am looking for an inexpensive way to get a 5.5" rear rim for my X1 to get a better choice of tyres for track days. Does anyone have some more detail on what is needed in terms of spacers/pulleys/belts to fit a XB rear to a tuber? Thanks in advance for any help. | ||

If anyone is looking into this, the forks will bolt right into the trees on my S1W. I've measured the fork taper and all that, so that will get you the forks and brake caliper mount. You will have to fab wheel spacers, although IIRC the tube-to-tube spacing is the same also. I gave up on the project since my S1W has a gear drive speedo and I'd have to cut a spacer or cut the wheel down to fit the speedo drive.... |
