I just bought a XB12X uly and would really like to put a cruise on it but cant find a thing. I'm planing to ride for a month or so and would like some sort of cruise. Does any one have any info. on this? | ||

Probably the next best thing to a full-on cruise control is a simple Throttle Rocker which is a little plastic device that attaches to the throttle grip and is adjustable. It allows one to maintain throttle setting with your wrist resting on it and without having to actually grasp the throttle control. Other than that American Sport Bike has a more elaborate device p/n 5376 that goes inside the throttle drum and uses friction to hold the throttle steady. It is not a cruise control as such but more of a throttle lock. There's a note in the American Sport Bike catalog about not being able to use bar-end mirrors with this unit, so if your ULY has hand guards that attach to the end of the handlebar, you might have to decide if you want hand guards or cruise control. | ||

Google Vista Cruise on the internet. i have one and love it and it is really simple to install. Or you can check out the local import bike dealer and ask about them. | ||

cruise control: The Vista Cruise is the best item I've ever used. Simple, effective and safe. I know a BMW GS rider who credits the throttle rocker with causing a crash in a turn. Apparently when having to change lines he inadvertently put more pressure on the paddle and the added throttle was enough to cause the low side. The expensive bar end throttle locks are de rigeuer for the posers on the BMWs but is sometimes awkward for some riders. And buying the matching left end piece pushes the price over $100 as I recall. And I know of several installations that fell out on the road, never to be seen again. The Vista Cruise is operated by your right thumb, flip it down to lock and flip it up to unlock. In an emergency you can close the throttle normally because it is only a nylon lock ring clamping down on your throttle tube. You may need to trim the throttle grip to install it because it is a universal tool. Less than $20. | ||

I have used the Vista Cruise and also the Throttlemeister. If you are looking for the most elegant/cost effective throttle lock, then the Vista Cruise is hard to beat. However, I prefer the Throttlemeister - and have just installed it on my 12Ss. I have had it on three bikes now (Aprilia Caponord, Honda VFR, and the Long) - I prefer it because it addresses more than the cruise control function. 1) It is a very nice looking piece of kit, and sets off the Sunburst Orange real well with the stripe 2) I always go for the heavy set, which is very effective for vibration damping in the bars. If you use a couple drops of the supplied LocTite you will have no problems with the end weights coming out. Jack P.S. I have had a throttle rocker for several years, and have used it on the Caponord and VFR. However, it can catch you up in the twisties - especially on a torquey little bugger like my Long.
