Author Message   Dtx Posted on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 - 10:23 pm:        I have been having some noise come from the front end for quite awhile now. I think I have it narrowed down to one of two things...maybe both. 1. Front steering head bearing is shot. It has been re-torqued by the dealership and it still makes a clunk sound on hard brakes. Kinda like there is too much free play in the steering head bearing/shaft. There is also oil leaking from the bearing. 2. It may be the front isolater like Gowindard had. Also, there's a preload check in the FSM that you can try to ensure that the bearings are bad. That looks like anti seize on your frame judging by the photo above, so it may not be the bearings at all. Could be the bushings on your front brake rotor, too.   Dtx Posted on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 - 12:04 am:        Here is the front isolator pics. It looks like the rubber is slipping up, in the casting. It doesn't look as bad as mine, but I had the problem for a while before I figured out what was causing the noise. Take it in for warranty repair on both items. Looks like a bearing seal is leaking on the steering head, but I don't think that would be causing noise yet.   M1combat Posted on Sunday, July 30, 2006 - 11:15 pm:        Also... Keep in mind that the rotor will spin in the carriers just a tad when you apply the brakes. As it hits the carriers it can make a bit of a thunk sound. It was the front isolator. The 06 and newer bikes have a better, updated isolator. The dealership replaced the isolator as well as the steering head bearings. The bike feels like new again.
