Was on my way back from college yesterday, got within about 100 miles of school and the trusty 2001 M-2 shut off. I was moving at about 30mph, switched the gas to reserve, and popped the clutch, the engine turned over, but no ignition. I pulled over saw the 20 Ign fuse had blown. I replaced it turned on the key hit the starter, nothing. Checked fuse, it had blown again. I breeched a rain storm earlier in the day, but the bike was dry for about 2 hours before this happened.
Any suggestions? Called my buddy Alex Prior, he suggested checkin the battery and any pinch points on the wiring harness. It is at home now, the semester ends here in two weeks so I have some time before I can wrench on it. Any suggestions or experience with the problem?
Thanks guys,
Brian

Hope this response isn't too late to do you any good.

Had something like that happen to me as I was pulling into my driveway last fall. After an hour or two with the wiring diagram, plugging and un-pluging switches, modules and blowing fuses, I narrowed it down to the speed sensor in the transmission. It was a bit tough to pull the old one out and the outside of its case was bubbled and with obvious signs of some sort of internal overheat. Replaced it and it's run just fine since.

I appreciate the reply, I looked at the coil, speed sensor, clutch switch, and kickstand when it all first happened. It was not until the past few nites I had time to sit with the bike and work things through. We got it squared away the ole fashion way, wiring diagram. Dad and I checked resistance on every wire, connection and terminal, and we found the little problem. The whole problem was just a little diode that had gone bad due to corrosion and what not.
