I have had my Firebolt for a little over two and ½ years now, and I taken some really great trips on the bike. As winter started to wind down this year I started telling my wife of the places I wanted to go to this year. Being the responsible and good wife that she is she started giving me grief for planning my road trips and not planning any trips with her. When I first bought the bike one of the first accessories I bought was the Touring Pillion seat, so that "Princess & The Pea" would be as comfortable as possible on my new sport bike. I have bought an Autocom system so we can talk while on the road, a Ventura rack so she has a grab handle too. BUT, although she has been a pretty good sport about going on some short rides on the bike, she just has not enjoyed it, because she does not feel safe, or really “secure” on the bike. She feels like she is going to fall off the back of the bike, and doesn’t feel like she can move around on the seat because of that fear.

We have looked at touring bikes, although nice I’m just not ready to first admit that I’m that darn old, and second spend $20K on a bike and have her tell me that she still just doesn’t like being on a bike. What’s a guy to do?? We have discussed her own bike, but I can tell her heart is not in that idea. She then says how about a backrest for your bike. Hmm….Nobody makes one…I guess that leaves one option. Custom!!

So here it is.
One Corbin backrest
One Custom backrest mounting bracket.
Oh and of course a Pro Pad gel insert for my "Princess & The Pea".

While I was at it I inserted a Pro Pad gel insert into my Buell Custom seat. Hey what’s good for her is good for me too.

I cut the pocket in the seat foam with my woodworking router. It worked very well on the pillion seat, but the base of the router was a little large for the curvature on the riders seat. The riders seat took some hand work with a die grinder with a rasp to get the pocket deep enough in the curved areas of the seat.

Looks nice! But wouldn't it have been easier to get a new wife? Don't let her read this post. We all know how that women wireless network works. You say it to one, you've said it to all. Uh, yeah, good job on the seat.
