Court, there's a back story here. last year during O'fast i had Boston playing on a loop in my garage system. i've got plenty of tunes, but i was busy playing host and all and figured if somebody wanted to plop sumthin' else in, they would. well, they DID, in the form of American Sport Bike Al commandeering my CD player with his trick little Neuros thingie...

"Al digitally overpowers and disables the Boston CD with his Neuros Music Appliance using its FM transmitter. Neuros is cool but it needs Boston's first album in it, Al." --photo by the Forger

...and then proceeding to "harass" me all weekend because of my apparent Boston fetish.

these days, when i'm feeling particularly rambunctious, in goes the Boston and up goes the volume. i figure i've gotta get my listening in before this Oktober rolls around... ; )

ps: Tom, a.k.a. the Forger, ROCKS!

La vie est more than a feeling... : )

Octoberfast 2004 is on my calendar and I can't wait!

We'll make sure that Boston is loaded into my Neuros player in order to overpower Al's transmission if necessary. BTW, having a music appliance such as Ipod or Neuros is a great way to jam hours of music into a small can. Two weeks ago, I played nothing but a Pink Floyd mix all the way back from an Anza-Borrego run

Court: because we're both pretty sure you'd lose? : )

Forger: i'll never forget following you thru Oregon during Four-Play last year and watching your head bob back and forth as you journeyed to the Dark Side of the Moon and back. : )

after work today i spent several hours in the garage painting, and in honor of this thread i had an "All Boston, All the Time" mini-marathon.

"When I'm tired and feelin' blue,
I turn on some music and start my day,
and think of the Buell I used to know.
I closed my eyes and she slipped away..."

Oktoberfast Cometh!

me ‘n D invite you to enjoy a casual, intimate riding weekend with great people and superb roads! (or, superb people and great roads, take your pick!)

the general game plan is pretty much like this:

Friday Oktober 8th: arrive, at your convenience, at the fabulous ThunderDome, overlooking beautiful Isabella Lake. ping (edress in profile) if you need directions. we’ll be up for guests anytime from about noon on. the microbrews start as soon as you shut your bike off for the day, and the BBQ ignites at 5 p.m. or so and flames into the clear night sky until everyone is full. tunes, brews, Buells. lather, rinse, repeat.

Saturday Oktober 9th: 8 a.m. launch from the Dome, with an immediate alpine assault up The Bostrom (Highway 155). breakfast at the Iron Horse in Glennville, then back into the twisties, basically north, on Jacks Ranch and Old Stage Road. fuel and snacks in Springville. onward, on the mother of all goat trails, Yokohl Valley Road. north on 198 to Lemon Cove. north on Dry Creek Road (ALWAYS a favorite). north at Badger on 245 (a great road for getting rid of your chicken strips) to the intersection of 180, where a right promptly puts us in Kings Canyon National Park for the night. our digs will be the sublime Montecito Sequoia Lodge, right in the heart of Sequioa/Kings Canyon Nat’l Parks. dinner, drinks, and decadence will surely ensue.

Sunday Oktober 10th: breakfast at the Lodge, a casual sport-tour through the parks, then back to the Dome via the Mighty 190 and the Western Divide Hwy, with a stop at the Pondersosa for refreshments on the way. Sunday evening it’s dinner in Kernville, then back to the Dome to sample some more microbrews, and tell bold, blatant lies about our respective riding abilities.

Monday Oktober 11th: y’all have to go home now, but if you ask nice (our arms are easily twisted) me ‘n D will gladly escort you outta Ferrisville on one of several different local flick-fests, including the fabuellously infamous Lion’s Trail.

okay, s’more stuff to ponder:

-- ping me via e-mail (in profile) if you’re coming, so’s we know how much food and brew and such to stockpile.

-- when you call Montecito Lodge (800/227-9900, 650/967-8612, 9-5 Mon-Fri) to make your reservation for Saturday night (me 'n D are in room 134), ask for Christine and tell her Ferris Bueller sent you (serious) – she’ll take over from there. we’ll all be staying in their Sugar Pine Lodge, and she’s giving us $10 off the rooms (from $99 to $89) because, well, she likes motorcycles. call NOW, as she is only blocking out rooms for us until August 15th – after that it’s catch as catch can. most of the rooms will accommodate up to 8 people, so maybe y’all can network amongst yourselves here on BADWEB or via e-mail and pack in some extra bods, reducing the room hit a bit.

-- Montecito Lodge is a very cool place (be sure to check out their website) and dinner, breakfast, and 24-hour hot and cold drinks and snacks are included in the deal. (and the caretaker is a Bueller : ) )

-- it’s a holiday weekend, but if you HAVE to return to your particular version of reality on Sunday, well, we understand, and we’ll be departing the parks early enough on Sunday to get you home before sundown.

-- neither snow nor rain nor sleet nor hail should be an issue, but c-c-cold mountain temps in the mornings are a REAL possibility - ya never know up here when the season is gonna turn, so it’s best to be prepared.

-- EVERYONE is welcome to attend Oktoberfast - makes no matter what brand of bike you ride, what brand of person you are, or what your riding ability is – ALL are welcome. there is NO pressure to ride fast, and sight-seeing along the way is encouraged.

-- lastly, since mine and Denise’s names are on this deal, and since we love you all, just like last year we will insist that there be no alcoholic beverages consumed while anyone is riding. the time for knocking back a cold one (or ten) is at the end of the day, with the bike keys tucked safely away. last year everyone was cool with this requirement, which was brought about to show respect to a couple of fallen Buellers, and I hope this year is the same. we thank you for understanding.

there’s no way we can cover everything in one post, so if you’ve got questions ask away. we can comfortably house about 15 or so folks here at the Dome, via beds, couches, floor space, and sleeping bags out on the deck (my personal favorite), and if we get crushed with participants this year the Barewood Motel is only 60 seconds away.

ride two lean,
Ferris & Denise : ) : )

Hey Al and Forger and Ebear Sparky etc... How is everyone getting up there? Riding or trailering? I would rather either ride with a group or maybe share trailer space with someone (I have a small trailer that only fits one bike, maybe someone could hook it to their truck if they are taking a truck with a bike??? Anyway let me know what the plan is please...

No definitive plans yet, but I'd be willing to bet that I'll be pulling the trailer up there with at least Tom's and my bike in it, and likely Joanne's too. Dunno the details yet, though.

I'll bring the neuros. Tom has one now too. Boston won't get a tune in edgewise... : )

Shawn...I rode mine up last year on Friday. I take the 1/101 from Santa Monica north to Hwy. 126, then hit the 150 north (10th Street off-ramp) to Ojai, then take 33 north to 166 (in Taft), take 166 east to Bakersfield and hook up with the road that goes to Ferris and D's house, the Dome. It is a beautiful ride, and it is easy. Lots and lots of sweepers. I showed it to Don Sabatino this past month for our trip to Laguna Seca and he loved it.

I will do a post prior to the trip for those interested in hooking up.

Tom, please sneak all Boston albums into the trailer for the trip.

PS...I made my hotel reservations today. Read the fine print...Saturday night requires a hotel stay!

RESERVATION ALERT

Apparently the rooms set aside at the Montecito Lodge for Saturday Oct. 9 will hold 2-3 persons max. The special $89 rate is per person, regardless of room occupancy.

Dino, thanks for the save, my bad. sorry people, i thought i asked Christine enough questions to have this deal all figured out. i hope not being able to share room cost doesn't mess anyone up. it's still a cool deal, considering the location and the fact that dinner and breakfast and snacks/beverages are included. thanks again Dino.

Ferris

addendumb: i just spoke with Christine at Montecito again - she says people get confused all the time about their room rates, which are always per person regardless of how many folks are in the room. it's because of the two meals and 24-hour snacks being included in the package that they do this.

anyway, my apologies to anyone i unintentionally mislead by stating initially that extra bodies in a room would help bring the per person cost down proportionately.

by the way, i also goofed when i said that the rooms being held for us would hold up to eight. the rooms in the Sugar Pine Lodge at Montecito will hold 2-4 people, depending on the bed situation in the room (king versus two queens) and how intimate you are with your room mate/s.

also, in case any of you might be interested, i just found out that they have a cabin across the lake from the main lodge, called "Dandy's" cabin, that will hold up to eight people. it has two bedrooms upstairs, each with a queen bed, a small bedroom downstairs with a bunk bed, and a pull-out hide-a-queen in the living room downstairs. (it's also got a couple of bathrooms). it's still $89 per person, and might be a way for a small group to all hang together that night if you're so inclined.

again, sorry for any confusion regarding the rooms; i try really hard to get all this stuff figured out ahead of time, but i'm afraid old age and alcohol are beginning to take their toll...
