What Jackie needs is a pack of large Zip Ties and maybe a roll of duck tape. If his partner is anything like my boys were.

Well Charlie,
Nuts is back at the family compound so I knew the woods would be nice and quite.
Snuck on out there about an hour before daybreak and just sat there listening to things go bump in the night.
Daybreak comes and brings with it a host of squirrels but no deer (I'm sitting in Nuts stand). After 2 hours I went up to my secret spot, sat down for 5 minutes and two does came in followed by a little 6 but I let him walk since they now have the "earn a buck" program in place. Put the crosshairs on the lead doe and put another 60 pounds of meat in the freezer.
Man, I sure can pick some mighty good spots!
All in all it was a very enjoyable morning despite the wind and lack of deer for the first few hours.

Nice looking doe. The way the economy is going you better pack that freezer real tight.
You shouldn't have wasted 2 hrs. at Nut's stand.........when you saw all the trees with ropes and nothing tied to them. Not mention all those apples laying around if the game warden happened to show up.

Nah Charlie,
Them apples are for Nuts personal use. He says he will tell the game warden (as he's slapping on the cuffs) that they are what he snacks on while waiting for the deer to show.
They'd never catch me hunting over apples in a million years.

I'm strictly a corn guy

Sometimes you can find a stray apple tree in the woods, it's damn near impossible to find a corn stalk there.

Where I hunt you don't need corn stalks. It falls from the magic corn trees I planted years ago .

Seriously, no baiting for us. Wouldn't work anyway since the area we hunt has so many white oak trees. Find a group thats actively dropping acorns and you're in for a good day.
What do the deer eat down yonder? I always thought SC was full of pine instead of hardwood.

Tank,
Stocking up on the arsenal since Obama got elected? Nuts tells me all will be well but I'm thinking about hocking everything that isn't nailed down to come up with enough cash to buy myself a small cache of things that go bang.
I never really had a burning desire for an AR type rifle but the prospect of someone telling me I can't have one is making me rethink that.

The bills are paid...Twice!!!

Yes I did. Got distracted and paid the october bills twice. Real genius...

Sarcasm?? Or not??

I got into a saving crunch that might get everyone better christmas presents?
( = I couldn't order the AR yet, and other stuff..)

I don't have to pay bills this month, but I'm still crunching until the comfort level gets better.

Might put the AR on the credit card since better times are coming??

Jackie,
Not sure of all the hardwoods, but they have a lot of Live Oaks and Pecans. My deck is covered in acorns(no blind squirrels though)No shortage of evergreens.

Bad, bad day. Got news of tresspasser's on the farm( after finding out we had a tree-stand stolen last week). Missed two deer today with the muzzleloader, in th process scope biting myself between the eyes again! Sliced my finger open cleaning said muzzleloader and I'm out of ammo for it. I thought about getting a sixxer of something dark and malty but that'd just have me howling at the moon.

I think I'll take 'Ole Huckleberry out for a ride tomorrow in the rain. Nope, have to go to the Post Office at nine to get my new jacket that probably won't fit.

If I was a working slob I'd really feel up the creek! NUTS

Full moon yesterday...

Good thing you opted not to do the malt(me too)

Last month it was a Bud fest. I didn't know it was full that night.

You guys should have seen the scope bite. I was gonna take a photo but I figured after missing twice ole Nuts was feeling bad enough..
Ya'll would have thoroughly enjoyed his fine recounting of this tale of woe. It was very animated and he spun it with the prowess of a master story teller. By the time it was nearing its end I was biting my nails and feeling an adrenaline rush just like I was there.
I couldn't pick on him too much though since he didn't rib me for missing the buck of a lifetime a few weeks ago.

I would however stay off that bike for a few days until your run of bad luck ends.

Jackie,
Maybe you need to get the Nuts one of those big rubber eye sockets(super soft) for his scope for Christmas. Assuming he doesn't need an eye patch before then. I thought he always shot from the hip?

Charlie,
Don't worry too much about Nuts losing an eye. The bridge of his nose has offered plenty of protection the past 3 times its happened.
Lets see, thats once with my shotgun and twice with his muzzleloader. If he keeps this up he's gonna end up with a permanent scar betwixt his eyes.
I'm just wondering if the latest one required a stitch or two from his better half .

Yep, I'm considering a multitude of options. The first of which is going back to the bow and arrow. Beyond that, I will be eschewing scopes for good 'ole iron sights. I looked at an awful nice Marlin lever gun today. 45/70 gov't might be a bit much for my shoulder though. I'm taking a .308 with open sights up to the farm too. Mostly I'll just be looking for a nice sizeable buck. If I see him and he's out of range, that'll be ok too. NUTS

Nuts,
If that is the 45/70 with the octagon barrel, you are in for a painful experience.Unless it comes with the portable tripod.I know all this from first hand experience. At the time my future father-inlaw loaned it to me for a family (his)hunting trip. He said any guy who could carry that thing through the woods all day and not complain had his vote(a hard earned vote)
I doubt if you will kill anything with it.It has a slug the size of a dog turd and you can see where it's going by all the trees your knocking down.
When you hear that deer coming and you put it up to your shoulder and wait for him to step out from behind that tree(he's really just standing back and laughing at you)by the time he comes out the barrel has dropped about 30 degrees and no matter how hard you try, it won't come back up. If there is ever a day when I want pictures, this is it.
If you think all of this is BS, I assure you this is not just speculation on my part.

Why you gotta ruin my fun man? When I read the 45/70 part I thought "this is gonna get interesting real fast". Now you done warned him and shot down my excitement.
I was gonna take pictures of him in the ER getting sown up too .

Charlie,
I believe ole' Matthew Quigley was shooting him a 45/110.
I think our boy Nuts could handle that just fine too.
Besides from my physical therapy days I know how to reset a dislocated shoulder.

Thanks for the info Jackie, never really knew for sure. Just remember it looked like the 45/70 Id drug around the woods on that infamous deer hunt. But like you said the Nuts can handle it.....maybe.With his shoulder in a sling, there won't be any two wheel'n going on and he'll have to hang around the house and..........maybe work on that honey do list a little. Ya...........the misses might run out and buy the Ole Nuts and early Christmas present.........The Matthew Quigley Replica.
Just be sure to get that first and maybe only shot on film, would look great on You Tube.

Nuts,
What in the crap? 7:15am and you ain't hunting?

Well it was a balmy 16 degrees with 15mph winds as I entered the woods at 5:45 this morning. I eagerly awaited the arrival of the sun over the horizon hoping it would bring a bit of warmth with it. Unfortunately the sky was heavily overcast and no additional heat was to be had.
Along about 10:00 I am giving serious consideration to packing up and heading home when out of the corner of my eye I see two yearling does headed my way.
They browsed just out of range for what seemed an eternity and then the lead one offered the shot. A loud bang, blue smoke everywhere and she runs for 30 yards before piling up deader than a hammer.
All in all it was worth it but I ain't gonna be doing that again unless the mercury is above 25!

Charlie,
Thanks for the kind words about getting old. I'm sure I have many more wonderful surpises in store for me as I get even older. Heck just the other day I started crapping blood so I either got serious hemmorhoids or my liver fell out

It's not the camera you have to worry about.......................It's that 10,000 volt tongue that snake light has.
You may think the brain rules the body, but you keep waiting and you'll find out what really does. What ever is causing your problem, if left alone could soon turn into cancer.Do it while it's an EASY fix..........Will keep your pictures off the Internet, won't we Nuts.
