Buells all around us. I hope we can reel in a few more members. C3 is growing. We started two years ago with 12 members and now have 40 active members and another 20 that pipe in here and there. Not a bad little group if I may say so.

Webe and John stopped by today. Webe is quite talented and the sliders look very professional. We looked at the original design and he stated that he wants to make some modification to the original design. So I will wait for the second generation or should I say Webe Sliders 2.0.

If I remember correctly you have Avon Storms on your XB correct? How many miles do you have on them? I love the way that they feel and grip but they are wearing a lot quicker than the Azaro's.

I still have my old muffler chocks, I made/cut myself for the stock xb exhaust

Twig - since Nance can't use it, do you mind bringing it with you in October. That might be just what Carlos needs to help steady the bike when he has it strapped up to the exercise equipment!

Dave,

I have them as does Mikethebike. I'm on my third set. I had two of the Azaro and one of the Storm.

I can get only about 3500-4000 out of any tire. The Azaros and the Storms were no different. The Storms are an improvement on the Azaro. The biggest difference is that the Storm has the dual compound rubber allowing the center of the tread to be a little harder and the edges to be softer. The center doesn't tend to square as quickly.

I run all tires hard. Big guy, heavy bike, lots of torque. Not a good combo for tire life.

I have a set of the Diablo Stradas mounted ready to go on as soon as the current tire goes away. I will buy another Storm rear since the front still looks good.

I am looking to see how the Stradas compare. If they hold their profile better, I will probably switch to them.

I would really like to get 5,000 miles from a tire, but so far that has been a pipe dream.

Cyclone,
I'm running the Storms and have 4,100 miles. Center (rear) measures in at 4/32 started at around 8 or 9/32.
95% loaded to the max gross vehicle weight plus a couple pounds added for good measure...oh and all highway no dirt and not many corners . They are my favorite so far.

FB - I have the Stradas on Uly now. They do not stick as well as the Azaros I have on the M2. Mileage is good though. I did get 5000 out of the last rear tire and have 6500 miles on the front with tread left. You have to ask if the loss of traction will be important. Remember, I lost the Uly on the Dragon because I locked up the front tire. New brake rotor, yes, a hamfisted rider, yes, but that was the first time I have ever locked up the front tire on dry warm pavement. The Stradas are not my favorite tires to say the least. I do understand wanting more tire life. I too am on that quest considering I apply to all the same factors as you.

The best tire life I have gotten out of a set of tires was on the M2 with the Dunlop D205. I average 5300 miles with 5700 miles being my best, but that was with white cord showing. The best set up on that bike was the D207 Sport tire up front and a D205 Sport Touring tire on the rear. You may want to try that with the Pirellis. Maybe a Diablo Corsa up front and a Diablo Strada on the rear. The Dunlop set up worked well on the M2. I have dirt tracked it out of some corners but very manageable.

Jeremy, Tim and Carlos, Thanks for the great info! I'm not positive but I believe have over 8000 miles on the Azaro's which are on the M2. I just ordered Bridgestone's BT-021's for the M2 (Azaro's are not available) because even though I don't have chicken strips I don't push it as hard as the XB.

On my XB I ran the Dunlop's down to the threads in 2000 miles and I am afraid that I am going to have the same problem with the Storms. I run the XB hard but I did not think that hard! I do love how the storms feel though. The front tire is still in great shape and I will just replace the rear when it's time. I will have to take it easier on the next rear tire.

I have been able to go two or three to one front to rears, so it comes down to which one will allow me to get more that 3,500 miles out of a rear.

Carlos, thanks for the feedback. We'll have to see how much of a difference the Stradas make in traction. I don't push them to their limit. I try to ride right at or just shy of the edge of the tire. I usually have no or just a millimeter of strip left on the tire (hey when ya got ass to sling, might as well use it). I know Chad uses the Strada and swears by them. I used to be a complete purist about not mixing and matching tires, but I am willing to do it if the front Strada is "spooky". I'm paranoid enough as it is about tucking the front.

I have noticed that the Azaros get "slimey" as they age. I was out this weekend and I could feel them break just a bit until they got really hot.

Some swear by the Road Attacks or the Metzler Z6's. I will also consider the Pilot Road.

Hey, at 3000 miles from a rear and 12,000+ miles a year, I can try just about anything pretty frequently.

My luck. I'll find a tire I absolutely HATE and can't wear it out. : |

Yup! I do not know what it is about the M2. After not riding it much over the last year, I start riding it more and I realize I am riding it almost like a cruiser. Okay, a cruiser that handles but still, loafing it off the line, riding the low end torque. I believe its the Sportster cams. The M2 has more power below 5000rpm than the Uly and the mechanical carburetor allows for low rpm take offs with ease. I rarely down shift to pass. So after a while you just start cruising the bike.

I think this is the case with any tire. They feel great until you get a new tire and then you wonder why you waited so long. The problem with comparing tires by wearing out the predecessor is the new tire always feels great in comparison to any old worn out tire.

I took the bike out this afternoon. The click was back.

I took the bike over to Ray Price. They have so many bikes there for service they had blocked off the service center parking lot. I walked in and said "I'm going on a trip on Monday and my steering head bearings are bad. Can you fix them?"

They sent me over to parts to see if they had bearings in stock. Mike was working in parts!! He didn't have any, but gave me a list of every Buell dealer in the US that did have them in stock.

I went back to service and told them I could get the bearings tomorrow. The Buell tech (they have one!) came over and asked if I was sure it was the bearings. I said no, but I had tightened the bearings yesterday and it seemed to make things better.

They got my bike and took it in the back and two of them went to work on it. I was watching through the glass. It was cool to watch, since I had just read this portion of the service procedure yesterday.

They came out a few minutes later. My bearings are fine. They can duplicate the click with the bike on the jack. It is the floating rotor making contact with the sides of the stops. He says it's normal, and happens a lot after you wash the wheels. When the wheels are dirty, they get brake dust between the rotors and the sides of the stops, and that prevents the metal on metal clicking sound.

Anyway, I've very glad my bike is working, and extremely pleased with the way Ray Price treated me.

Mike, can you get the full names of yourself, Ned & Bert in service, and whoever it was who was helping Bert with my bike last night?

Tomorrow when I get up (notice I didn't say morning...) I am loading up the S2 and heading towards East Troy, WI for Homecoming. Since my parents still live about 1/2 mile from Buell obviously I will be staying with them, but that is also the reason why I am leaving a little early - gotta see my old friends, you know. Is anyone else from C3 going? If anyone is going, my cell phone # is 252 671 1347, give me a call and I will show you the lay of the land and probably show you some things (Buell and non-Buell related) that you probably wouldn't find otherwise.

I will be staying at Dave's (Aydenxb9) outside of Indy Sunday night, so it will be a leisurely 3 day ride up. But I still hope to get to my parents house early enough to allow me to post a write up about my recent trip to Germany (all aspects of the trip, not just the Buell stuff) in the Tale Section before Homecoming kicks off.

Hartkor Fakker

109,000 + miles and going STRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim (Nance),
It will be cool having another C3'er there! You'll have to allocate the time for dinner one night here. It will be an experience that you will not forget. My preference would for it not to be Friday night. Even though their fish fry is good I'm sure I will have plans with some friends for a hootin', hollerin' fish fry on Friday. One of the guys I met at the BORG MSM in Germany will be visiting his parents in Minneapolis and expects to come down for Homecoming. Hopefully he will be able to have dinner with us whatever night we decide. Don't worry - he's originally an American & his native language is English...

Scott

Kristi,
My first thought is that I have no problem with my name and where I'm staying being listed, but I was a little cautious about having my cell phone number listed for public consumption. After further review, I'll try it this year & see how it goes - so go ahead.
