Chauly in Buena Vista VA checking in. If the idea of regional get togethers floats your boat, I can recommend our town as a meeting point: several inexpensive motels, decent places to eat (of course!), 2 miles down the hill from the BRP, big campground nearby... Heck, we even have an independent bike shop on the next block! We can put on the feed bag for just about any size group as well; breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Think about it!

Joe..
Daves (Dave S, actually) was one of the best Buell sales folks to ever walk the earth.. His last dealer was Appleton, where in the dead of winter he'd still manage to come in 3rd in the nation in Buell sales. In addition, he was a primary source of all things Buell to the BadWeb. Over the years, he sold God knows how much in parts and extras to Buellers all over the world. Delivered bikes sold to folks all over the nation and even had special sales that drew folks to his dealership from across the continent. He retired from Buell sales to be with his family and open his own archery shop. He's still a presence here and I'll bet you could tap his knowledge if need be.. just drop him a PM sometime and say "Hi".

He had the right attitude and would go the extra mile for folks he'd only ever met online. A lot of folks even kept a credit card on file with him for 'quick sales'. To be a 'Daves' in the eyes of the BadWeb is a really, really GOOD thing.

If you end up getting that comparison.. Then you are on your way to being one of the best.. period.

And that is the Daves reference.

When you say "feed bag". . . does that include hot dogs and BBQ?

I mean . . I can be bought, but I am not cheap.

But you play "hard to get"!

It includes, but is not specifically limited to Hot Dogs and BBQ. I have recently acquired a trailer rig that will cook a couple hundred chickens....

Wow, sounds like I have some big shoes to fill. I'll do what I can : )

For the X1 recall, just give them a ring at 301-416-3900 with a VIN handy and they can pre-order the parts if they don't have them in stock. We did one here at Frederick not 2 weeks ago, but had to SO the parts. And Buell Parts being Buell Parts...best not to down the bike any longer than needed, right? LOL.

And it looks like the Sportfest ride for me will be on the S1W. Changing tides at home limit me to modifying vehicles I already own as opposed to getting additional ones. So, Penske...gold valve front end...frame brace...steering stabilizer...things like that may be on the near horizon. Anyone have input or experience with the S1 Corbin solo seat? Al seems to have LOVED his, I just want to make sure the seating area is far enough back for me. At 6'4", I'm practically sitting on the "White Lightning" sticker as it is!

Well, lunch is over. If anyone needs me, shoot an email to racer-x@erols.com or jgoetz@hdoffrederick.com. I'm at work every weekend but off every Weds/Thurs, so don't be surprised if I "disappear" mid-week ;)

Midi9,

PM Ratbuell for those frame pucks. They should run you about $50 - best $50 I've spent.

Chauly - good to hear from you and thanks for the offer, PM me your contact information so we can chat more about planning a ride your way.

All:
The 26th it is, I can't think of a better time for the Res. Ride, the weather should be nice and most folks will be on the main arteries heading somewhere on Friday and Tuesday.

More on the Res. Ride:
I'd like to head out of Frederick HD by 8am on the 26th. That will give us time to:

a) take a twisty route to the ride
b) we slab it there and spend more time on the reservoirs.
c) slab it back it time for BBQ and a little partying back in Frederick.

If the 8am departure time is too early from your location, 'yall can stay at my place Friday night and we can head out early Sat.

Court makes it to our thread! Wow, maybe we can talk him into joining us for a ride or two.

Sorry, missed the puck question. 93001-03YA, got one set showing in stock : )

For the ride on the 26th - should be OK here in Frederick. 27th will be EXTREMELY circus-like as we are a rally point for Rolling Thunder that day. They leave out of here around 9am on the 27th - if you're up for a spectacle, swing by. Last year we had 900+ bikes roll out of here. Crazy doesn't even begin to describe it, LOL.

Ugly cut-n-paste from the BMC PDF for dealers, DDFI throttle control system recall 0827:

The Buell Motorcycle Company has determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists in the throttle control system of the 1999 and certain 2000 model year fuel injected motorcycles identified below. The idle control cable can become dislodged from the fuel injection system cable guide due to improper adjustment of the throttle control system. Should this occur, the throttle may not return to the idle position when the operator’s hand is removed from the twist grip, but will return with light hand pressure applied.

Motorcycles Affected
This campaign involves all 1999 model year fuel injected models (X1 and S3) plus 2000 model year fuel injected models (X1, S3 and S3T) manufactured on or before June 15th 1999.

Babired (and anyone else considering coming up),
The Res. Ride, short for Reservoir Ride, is about a 100 mile ride thru the valleys and mountains of central PA, near Altoona.

It starts with some double "S" curve twisties (around a reservoir),
followed by some more roads that were made by following a snake thru a valley, (the kind of road Buells were made for),
after that it opens up into some wide open strait aways (100+, if your game),
back into some nice curves,
a short shot over a big hill/small "mountain" with a nice switchback,
a short shot, maybe 2-3 miles of 3 lane hwy,
back into some more nice 2 lane back country roads that follow a river,
a couple more miles of country roads
then back up another mountain around another reservoir(#2) with some nice switchbacks/curves
That's followed by running a ridge top for another 25-30 miles, then back down into/towards Altoona around "The World Famous Horseshoe Curve" (if you are into trains particularly steam engines, you'll find it fascinating)
Around another reservoir (#3).
That pretty much makes up the 100 miles of the "Res. Ride"

95% (at least as of last fall) of the roads were paved within the last 3-4 years and in nice shape. Only one stretch of road, maybe 3-4 miles long, is not the nicest road, but caution needs to be in effect.

Once back into Altoona, there are a few options:
1-Do a short shot thru the opening "S" curves on the way to Clem's BBQ!-maybe 35-40 miles of back country roads-worth the ride.
2-Frozen Custard (ice cream) maybe 5 miles away
3- a different BBQ place, not much in the way of "atmosphere", close by-in Altoona, but good BBQ none the less (not as good as Clem's though)
4-, ride home.

I have plenty of parking space at my shop, should anyone decide to trailer up, then ride. But if you ask, Ras, the ride up Rt. 522 from MD is a nice ride.

If you choose to "slab it", from Frederick, MD, come up I-70 to Breezewood, PA, then Rt 30 west to Bedford, then I-99 north to Bellwood (exit 41)-where I am at.

If anyone needs better directions/info, drop me an email to: alumicraft at gmail dot com

Hehehe, maybe we could talk Court into coming in for the BBQ!
At my shop/place of business, we've been known to take a long lunch and ride the 25 miles to Clem's for lunch.
Maybe he can be bought! and the BBQ is cheap, $5.25 for a pulled pork "sammich" and a side order of baked beans/potato salad/garlic smashed 'taters. They also offer BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken all done over open fires. The "building" isn't much to look at, but the food is OUTSTANDING!.

You actually have to stand out at the wooden barrels to eat, no table service.

They have a few maps with stick pins in it that show where people have come from and eaten there from all over the world. Clem's is about 5-6 miles from State College, PA, home of the PSU Nittany Lions.

You know, this Res Ride sounds like it would make a great Wicked Twisties Tour event.

While not the most challenging part of the ride, I enjoyed coasting down that one hill for what seemed like forever! Made me feel like a kid.

The PA turnpike has some great sweepers too, just have to keep your eyes open for Smokies.

I can't wait for this ride either. Dan's a great host.

IIRC, that "hill" is about 3 to 4 miles long. You can have a fun coasting challenge to see who coasts the farthest.

Nothing stopping us from coasting down and riding back up it though, there are some nice curves on that road.

Although that "hill" isn't on the normal route, just the abbreviated one that you went on. We could coast down the one after the switchback before the 3 lane hwy., it's about 2 miles long.}

I'll have to take my GPS and see what the altitude difference is.

Ras, the downhill coast starts at Blandburg (which is an appropriate name for it) to the Cambria/Blair county line area, close to where the 'r' is in Blair. It looks strait on the map, but has some nice curves in it.

There are too many things to do that weekend!

Along with Rolling Thunder and your ride, don't forget about ASRA which has their National at Summit Point that same weekend, Sunday the 27th and Monday the 28th.

http://www.ccsracing.com/venues/2007/summit.html

Reservoir ride on Saturday in PA. It would be a great Wicked Twisty Tour event.

Rolling Thunder on Sunday in DC.

ASRA on Monday in WV.

I think I could do all three, the Buell Memorial Day Trifecta.

Damn! This SUCKS!!!
I'd love to do that ride.. but..

My Memorial day weekend already looks like this...

Friday - Summit Point Main - I'll be riding all day! (TPM Track Day - any one else up for it? I could use some company - I'm usually the only Buell so others would be welcome)

Saturday - I'm supposed to be leading a cruiser ride for the Southern Cruisers out of the Sterling Area. I don't think they'd like it if I took them that far out for the Res. Ride.. besides cruisers and tour bikes wouldn't be the rides of choice for that run...

Sunday - Rolling Thunder (unless I get a 'paying' gig to shoot the races that day)

Monday - ASRA at Summit Point - Black Hat on head, cameras in hand shooting the races..

RatBuell, I have been experiencing a slightly hi-throttle when coming to a stop, and have been using the clutch to calm it down. I have a 2000 X1 racing stripe. I thought the throttle just needed adjusting.

Blublak don't feel bad about missing out. I'm going to miss Sportfest

Jose' be careful at Rolling Thunder its crazy riding it I've done it twice, then in 05 decided to be a spectator and took the metro down didn't have to worry about my bike and gear and it was just as cool. K

The Res ride was great yhis past summer, Ras and I ran the route up from 30 to 522 and had a great time getting there too. The ride back was a little hair raising as we had to make up a little bit of time (spent toom uch time enjoying the res ride itself)

Ras/Toona I won't be able to make it up there for this one, as I'm in MSF instructor classes that weekend and the following. Sorry I'll miss it. If anyone needs a place to cool their heals though halfway back to the b-more area my place is always open.

Remove or tape over mirrors. Tape all lenses. I suggest pulling the plug on your headlight to keep from cooking the tape on. No leaks. positive self closing throttle. Good tires (85%) and brakes. Wire not required until advanced group. No numbers required. Last name and shift pattern on the tank (std / gp). Of course the usual extras (gas etc.) Yep, there is a tech inspection and if you fail you have to fix it or not ride. I've never failed a tech and I'm on my street bike with just the adjustments described above.

Personal. Must have a Med Dat on your helmet. Helmet must be full face, no flip front, DOT cert at a minimum, Snell or both suggested, should be a late model not over 5 years old suggested. Hard back protector. Proper boots that reach the shin, proper gauntlets. One or Two piece leather suit (2 piece must zip together) - textiles are allowed in "White" group only subject to tech approval. No mesh. Oh, Med Dat is supplied by TPM.

Uh.. What else can I tell you about? Or you can check them out at http://www.teampromotion.com

Babired,

Check your idle, it might be a little high and it 'hangs'.

The other thing to check for intake leaks, they can also cause the high idle.

One way to check it yourself is to spray wd-40 around the intake area (from the left side of the bike opposite the airbox) while it's idling, if you hear the idle drop after you spray the intake manifold area, it means there's a leak somewhere.

It could be the o rings on the injectors and/or the intake gaskets. Best to replace them all if they are old.

Rolling Thunder, been there, overheated that!

Clear schedule tomorrow, post up if you wan to ride.

No planned route and I'm open to suggestions, could always do the high rok trip.

Speed limit to moderate pace depending on road conditions. We could also waste an hr or so riding around Frederick before heading out.

If you're coming from Bowie, Columbia we can meet up on 32/70.

Who's up?

Depending on the weather and all the family business I would be down to tag along the route around Frederick for a while. Need to stop by the dealer anyway. Was gonna check on Old Glory for the first time but plans change. Still haven't made it back to The HD Store yet to make nice so who knows. I'll check back in the AM if anyone else is goin.
