Looks like two vehicles at least so far. It seams that there are enough riders from Raliegh, Fuquay Varina, (HE, HE , He, I just can't say it with out giggling) to fill one car, and we have enough between Kintson, New Bern, Grifton and Ayden to fill another. That makes eleven of us riding up. We can meet somewhere on the way up, or just make it the train station @ 10am.

What do you think?

Brankin, now even Baylee can count to ten in Spanish. So I'll be a friend and help you. Remember this if you are every in a Latin American country in the future of happen to stop in Cary again.

I'd hate to watch you keep going back to the store to buy just one beer.

With that many we can split to 2 vehicles. Larry, as I said we'll make room for you, not a problem.

Carlos, where do you come up with 11? I count ten. Do we have even more? Cool!

Brankin - Too Funny. Thats definitly their bikes. I remember Mark had that non-OEM wheel on the front. He did something crazy like order it for their wedding anaversery. He did manage (just barley) to stay married despite that.

What do you think?

If Mike & Larry go, we will have 5 from here. Assuming someone has a car that will hold 5 people, it doesn't make much sense for us to go to Smithfield, it's in the wrong direction.

I would enjoy saying good morning to every one, and some people have not met others. Perhaps we could meet at a McDonalds in Rocky Mt, and grab some coffee and a McMuffin?

I don't have a 5 passenger, as both our cages, are 4 seater's and my truck definitely wouldn't be for long distance at least in the back seats. And I am still unsure of Spike's status. Larry

Well, I go to pick up my bike tomorrow, hopefully there will be no problems (knock on wood). I picked up my tag/registration today. That was a friggin battle. Evidently, the state of NC didn't believe that my bike was valid, the vin; even with valid AZ registration, insurance, title, etc.. That was a friggin nightmare.

I can't make a commitment on the IMS just yet, but I'm working on it. I'll keep you guys posted.

BTW- How much is it to get into the show?

I looked it up...seems like $13 was what I saw when I looked.

Welcome back S. Marine. Hopefully thats the last crap you have to take from the State of NC, but I doubt it. Glad you are back safe and sound. Hopefully we will all be riding soon. Larry

David- Thank you for your service and welcome back!

The NCDMV had its fun with me yesterday too. I was trying to register the Miata. For background, I've owned this car before. I sold it to my dad back in November '04 to get a bigger car. The personalized plate I had on the car managed to get "lost" in my garage, so I never turned it in. The DMV frowns on such things. Apparently owning an uninsured license plate enables one to commit heinous crimes . . . or something. I got a letter in January of '05 stating that I no longer had insurance on my '94 Miata and I hadn't turned in the plate. I would have to respond by February '05 to avoid civil penalties. I went to the DMV in January '05 to inform them that I had actually sold the car and lost the plate. This seemed to be a satisfactory explanation, I left the DMV with the impression that everything was settled. Fast forward to January '06 when I'm trying to register the Miata again, the DMV clerk informs me that I have a civil penalty on my account because I had a lapse in insurance coverage on the car. I explained that I hadn't had a lapse in coverage, I actually had sold the car and am now buying it back. She then pointed out how I hadn't turned in the tag, hence the civil penalty. I then pointed out (literally pointed- we were both looking at the same printout) how I had actually reported the plate as lost in January, prior to the February response date. She agreed that missing plate issue was handled, but that the civil penalties remained on my account. I stood there somewhat stupefied. I then tried to explain the scenario slower, hoping my slow speech would more closely resemble the native tongue of the DMV . . . "sold car. repurchased car. no lapse." She again stated that the civil penalty remained on the account. Apparently, I had reached the BSOD of DMV operation. I gave up. $233 and three DMV employees later I finally had registration for the Miata.

In the future, my personalized plates will be reported as lost prior to cancelling my insurance.

On another note- do you guys remember Jordan with the CityX from Ray Price? He joined the Marine Reserves last spring and this month he's getting deployed to Iraq.

Trying to nail down some stuff for IMS . . .

So the plan is to drive up Saturday AM, take train to show, and head back Saturday night? So the only costs should be gas, train, show tickets, and food?

If so, I'm in. Is there room to carpool with anyone else or are Larry and I driving separate?

Just found out that my new rear calipers for the Miata arrived today. If I install them this week we'll have a car with a working emergency brake for the weekend.

Hey, Mike I am in. Just let me know what our final plans are. Truck is available but will only fit two for that distance comfortably. The only thing that would hold us back would be that Kylie has been sick and we spent a large part of last night and most of today at the doctors and hospital. She had a temp of 105.6 at one point. But that is most likely not going to be a problem, as she should be almost 100% by then. Larry

Well, I HAVE IT. Yes, my bike is out of storage. : ) I enjoyed my little ride from New Bern back to Camp Lejeune. I had to get new tires and the only ones they had there were the same ones on the bike, the Dunslops. They used to scrub the tires down before putting them on, but a customer complained and they stopped so I'm having to do it the old fashioned, but fun way. : )
I'm taking it slow. It's been almost a year so I have to get my feet back under me. : ) I'm gonna take it to a parking lot at one of our schools here nearby. Ya'll have fun at the IMS.

Hey I was looking at the weather for Saturday..70 degrees...sounds like bike riding weather to me. Couldn't ask for better conditions. Larry

OK, we have 5 coming from the Greater Raleigh area, and that's very cool. I have a question: Do any of you Raleighites have wheels that could get five part of the way? Jim's idea of meeting in Rocky Mount would work better for everyone and we can split the contingent into two groups that will ride more comfortably. Ideally, if someone other than Jim could drive then he wouldn't have to worry about leaving a car anywhere til he and Rebecca return from D.C.

David, glad to see your back in the saddle, and the weather I think has turned good just for you man!

I've got the Mazda3, its got 5 seat belts at least. I haven't spent any significant time in the back seats, but up front at least it's a great highway car. Only problem would be getting it away from Sarah for the weekend, it means I'd have to leave her with the Miata. I'll be replacing the rear calipers on the Miata tonight, if I get that done the Miata will be easier for her to rely on.

Man, I got sidetracked...What does the image below have to do with today?

The big news is that my 'new' transmission has arrived! The guy I bought the tranny from said that the transmission only had about 400 miles on it. I must say that it looks prefectly new to me! Happy days are here again! Well, after the IMS Show, and after I get the bikes inspected I will be able to start the swap, then happy days will definitely be upon me and my S2!

Anyway, the caliper swap is done. I'll need to go back and re-bleed the brakes at some point, but the car now has a functioning parking brake.

SM - Back in the Saddle again! Congrats, I know you have waited a long time to get back in the saddle.

1313 - New tranny???

Dave - I have to agree with you and Jim. Rocky Mount seems to be the place to meet up. Does anyone know the area? I just do not know where we would meet. Any ideas?

Spike, where's Walmart in Rocky Mount? Sorry, I was just trying to get your mind off the used backseat. If it makes you feel any better it just get's worse. Now all my cages have multiple back seats but we just use them to haul the kids around.

I do not, but hey, we live in the days of the cell phone. First car that gets to a McDs north of the 64/95 split calls the other one with the exit number? I've got Kristi's number in my phone, is that the same number as yours?

Mike & Larry - Mark & Laura are meeting me at my house at 6:00am. Do you all want to meet here too? I'm about a block from the K mart on Western Blvd.

Jim - Carlos' cell phone is 252-939-6407. Keep mine programmed in your phone, as mine is usually on. Carlos only has his on when he's out riding.

I'll make sure he has your cell number in his phone as well.

Don't forget to bring your registrations for your free Buell t-shirts -- I did read this somewhere, didn't I???

You all have fun and be safe.

Jim,

Meeting at your house works for me, but we need to get the car situation nailed down. At this point I can't count on taking the 3, so that leaves me with the Miata (2 seats) and Larry with his Colorado (ext. cab with small back seat). Either of those will be fine to get Larry and I to your house, but neither will get 5 to Rocky Mount. What cars do you have available? How about Mark and Laura?

BTW- my cell number is 919-271-7109

About those back seats . . . I now have a house with ~1300 sq.ft. of "living" space, rendering the back seats obsolete.

I've got a Toyota RAV-4. If Larry is as skinny as you are we might be able to get 5 people in it. We can take it if we need to, but I'm still hoping for your Mazda!

Laura has an explorer, but it has a problem at this moment.

If need be, the Raleigh group can get to Rocky Mount in one car, than transfer one to the Suburban. It can haul seven adults comfortably or eight if we put the smallish people in the back row. That seat falls between the wheel wells and is a little tight with three adults. Good place for couples.

LOL....well Larry isnt very skinny. The only way 5 people are fitting in my truck is one in the back. Jump seats aren't bad for short distances but there is only room for 4. Larry

Jim,
How long are you going stay in D.C.?
Have you thought about calling Rocky Mount H.D. and asking them how safe their parking is?

Or, if Mike and Larry roll in the Miata, could Mark and Laura drive you to Rocky Mount, thus not need ing to leave your car anywhere other than at home. It still means a car will have to be left somewhere but I think it should be safe in a busy place like a McDonalds or a Wal-Mart.

Gawd, I'm getting old, I remember when almost EVERYONE had vehicles that would hold at least five comfortably...............................

Oh how I long for my 1970 Chrysler 300 right now. Seats six, cruises at 120 mph comfortably.
