Stoich is the ratio at which all the air and all the fuel will be burnt off (simply put). Doesn't always equal best performance.

That dyno run is a 12, with induction mod, K&N, and like I said, a straight through prototype muffler that has since been thrown in the trash, it actually cost me power. I had to use the induction mod to make up what I'd lost. What it did gain, though was a bunch better throttle response and smoother delivery.

I learnt a lot from this run and the others we did the same day, point is, it's very dificult to do better than the stock muffler on a 12.

If you bolted pretty much any muffler in isolation onto a 12, you are going to go backwards. That stock muffler is tuned so well to the ECM, induction, heads... It's almost imposible to beat. It's not until you add other mods like the pro series ecm, K&N, mod the induction that you start to see the benifit of the aftermarket mufflers. And they all loose something to gain something else.

But then sometimes people don't like to hear the bad news. I certainly didn't. I've been trying to come up with a muffler that sounds great and can at least be as good as the stock unit everywhere, and better than it somewhere... It certainly isn't easy. The math will do your head in, then you learn that no matter how much you run the numbers, it's still down to trial and error.

Just got a response from dobsck performance about using the TFi on a race ecu:
no worries
you should be alright with the race
ECU. We develop our products with stock ECU configurations and we have no
idea what has been done with the stock mapping, so it leaves the possibility
for troublesome tuning. we will be glad to assist in tuning, when you're
ready.
have a great ride

Just for the record, Im using a techlusion box on my 03 xb9r w race ecm, tiforce, stack, drilled airbox, and it works flawlessly. I did turn # 1 pot to 2.5 from recommended 3 but I ended up setting the others as recommended in the install sheet after messing around. I highly recommend the box as is. No dyno, but It really ads to the responsiveness of the motor. I did get a guarantee I could return it for free to get an updated rom when they are ready.

How is the installation of this unit? Do you have to cut and splice wires?

Thanks

fullpower -- he has a 9. Is there an MIL issue with the 9's or just the 12's? I thought it had to do with the exhaust valve...

Tatsu,

Do a search on Techlusion in the archives and you will find my many posts on the TFI. I now have a Jardine and it runs great with the TFI. It seems to be rid of the occasional hiccup when taking off from a stop as well.

xbolt12

BTW: Ti Jardine, stock ECM, motor in-place w/o cable (for now), Race Filter, snorkle cut down, heat reflective material on the bottom of the airbox and seat.
