I just noticed an oil leak at one of my base gaskets. I need to ride 2500 miles for the Indy GP. Anybody got experience with keeping an XB running for a while with a base basket leak, assuming it's just weeping oil and not pushing out air? I'm just wanting to know if I can get away with riding it, or if I'm taking a risk.

I rebuilt the engine with good quality Cometic gaskets about 8,000 miles ago, and everything was cleaned up and torqued properly.

Clean it really well, ride it hard and then see how much comes out. If you only see a little, then I would probably just ride the thing until you can fix it properly. Might carry an extra quart of oil with me just to be safe, or at least be prepared to buy a quart on the road.

I reckon I'll have to do that. Not sure I want to work on this thing any more.
