Got HID bulbs in both lights...some discoloration in the upper part of the reflective area. Any ideas how to deal with this? Aftermarket options or OEM I guess? Doesnt look like the assemblies can be taken apart?

thanks!

Lightning or firebolt? I have to assume lightning because the headlights on my 'bolt are
quite easy to disassemble

I read somewhere that it is possible to take the xb-s lights apart ,with a heat gun to soften the glue and a thin/sharp piece of plastic to gut through the glue.

But be careful to not melt the light housing etc.

You can use the oven. Just keep the temp around 200F for 8-10 minutes.

Just curious what would be done if you can get them open. I assume they are blackened from scorching, not soot. I don't think scorching could be cleaned off. If it's soot, you should be able to rig something to clean it through the bulb opening with rags, tape and coat hangers.

Yeah, doesn't appear to be something that could be wiped/cleaned off. Sort of a brownish discoloration. Doubt that the reflective material could be replaced...?

thanks

There is such a thing as chrome paint. It's expensive if you can find it, and I've never seen it a spray can. It would be cheaper to just pick up a replacement.

there are outfits that can re-chrome plate them for you, but it may cost less to simply
replace them.

Thanks guys for the tips etc. Sourced a brand new one for 135.00, but not sure I want to jump on that..Was hoping there might be a cheaper aftermarket solution that would accept the 2 H7 bulbs.

I'm sure Hella will have something, but I can bet that it won't be cheaper.

Mine is having the same problem, while I used xenon had no problems, but here in Brazil they were banned and went back to halogen lamps, and then it was all yellow! Where do I find the Hella's?

I think the Hellas in question are the 90mm model and require custom mounts.

edit: thought I found it. here are some on a 'bolt http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=3842&post=904126#POST904126

Hella used to have round halogen lights like the original Buell lights, not sure if they are still available though. The 90mm lights will be really nice if you can find a way to mount them, the 60mm lights might also make a neat modification. The individual high and low fixtures aren't exactly what I would call expensive, only gets bad when you get into the combination high/low like the BiHalogen or BiXenon.

Check KC lights and IPF, I think they also have headlight upgrade fixtures that should be road legal in your area.

Appears there were 2 versions of the XB headlight assemblies. The latest-part# Y0721.6AC..Anyone know what the differences between the 2 are and does the later one include a reflective area upgrade?
