Some of you around here may remember me. I hung out on here back in 2006-2008. I had a bada$$ XB12S but sold it and bought a Ducati S4R LE. That was a mistake. Nice bike, but painful maintenance. Since then, I've been through a couple of custom Triumphs (T120R bobber and a highly modified Thruxton cafe racer). Well, the Buell is still my favorite bike of all that I've owned.

I pick up a 3000 mile 2006 XB12R this weekend after months of searching for another XB12S, I found this R and couldn't pass up the deal. I can always convert it once my old back and wrists get tired of the R riding position.

I'll post up pictures when I get it the way I want it. I'll be riding it daily because my 14 MPG truck is killing me with these gas prices. The Buell will pay for itself in no time.

No, it has a gutted muffler; pretty unique actually with a side and rear exit. One of the previous owners did it. He is a chopper builder. Sounds pretty amazing. It has a custom map, but needs some additional tuning to get it right. I may change it to a Jardine and EBR pre programmed ECU like I had on my Lightning. The Jardine is a lot lighter, but I'll keep this for a while and tinker with the tuning. It has the breather mod, vented air box, HIDs, LED signals and some other minor mods. It's black and orange with logos removed from the airbox cover.

Nice!
I've heard a gutted muffler.
It does have a nice deep bass tone to it for sure.

Yeah, it has a straight pipe that runs from the collector through the inside of the muffler to the rear outlet with a Tee that exits the side. The junction is at the valve. Definitely an interesting design.

Nope, guess not. I passed on the bike. Had some issues I didn't want to deal with. Needed some tuning (idle issues, popping, etc.), dented and scraped primary cover from two tip overs, rattle can paint job on the chin fairing, flat black rattle can job on the windscreen, oil residue on the jugs around the head gaskets, rust on all of the fasteners, etc. Looked like more wear than a 2006 with 3700 miles. Plus, it was a far drive (4.5 hours in a truck that gets 14 mpg). The search continues... :-(

Finally found a bike and brought it home. Of course, it's not perfect, but it has some goodies. Under 6k miles, a couple of tiny, minor scratches on some of the hard parts from what looks to be a run in with some brush or something softer than pavement. Probably be able to buff most out. It has a Special O.P.S. exhaust, newer Dunlops with a 190 rear, gel grips, Corbin seat (very nice and brand new), and stock otherwise. The plastics were painted very poorly and look like complete shite though. I'm going to change the oil, check the primary chain, flush the brake fluid, change the brake pads , check all of the hardware for proper torque, and etc. I also have a complete set of plastics on order (got a good deal from LSHD). 21 day lead time though. In the mean time, I'm probably going to paint the current plastics with bed liner because that stuff will cover up just about anything...

What color? Here's a hint: Creamsicle Buell :-)

I think it was a fair deal even with the crap plastics considering fairly low miles, a $400 Corbin seat, $275+ Odie pipe, gel grips, and etc.

Still waiting on amber shorty levers and the chin fairing. Added LED turn signals and an EP36 flasher along with the new plastics of course.

Before anyone gets in an uproar about the EBR decals, I like how they look and I support Erik Buell's second chance without being restricted by the HD empire. His new company does support the XB's and still sells parts for them. By the way, his race team is already getting podium finishes in AMA Superbike which is a huge feat for brand new company, brand new team, and brand new bikes.

Consider painting the mirrors white, did that in mine and I really like how it looks. Mine is all gray/black/white so I put a dark "smoke" windshield on mine and it looks really good. Old picture before the new screen:

It also features reflective material for the tank stickers:

Not a bad idea but id rather not call more attention to the mirrors plus I'm trying to ballance out the black white and orange. I want it to look as if the factory actually produced a white and orange firebolt. Minus the ebr stickers of course.

Looks good. I even like the paint scheme (white/orange/black). Very unique.

I thought I might hate the mirrors white, but I really like them now. The only issue would be the flop eared look yours have from the newer style mirror. I tried them on my cycle and decided I had to put the less effective mirrors back on.

But if you are happy with it, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. It does look good.

Yeah Im not sweating the mirrors. Its not a show bike just a decent daily rider. Since it needed plastics anyway, thought id try for a little uniqueness.
