My heads are shipping in Friday, but I went with stock heads and 1050 kit from NRHS. Are you putting a 12 throttle body on yours to get a little better intake flow? I need to check on my 12 injectors to see when they are going to arrive and then start cleaning the cylinders for my build.

Be interesting to see how yours comes out compared to mine.

Ive got the D&D pipe, CIA open airbox..
Using the Direct link to remap and tune on a Dynojet.
(it will have a conservative map for the 1st 1000km break-in)
Then it will be remapped to squeeze everything I can get out of it.
I'll post the dyno charts. Also have been taking photos, keeping a journal of the rebuild/costs etc, will also have a video of the dyno runs, 1st fire up. etc.
So if anyones interested.. not a problem.

I too have a 1050 kit from NRHS about to be installed, my motor is completely torn down due to an old bent shifter fork issue. As far as the heads go, i was gonna attempt to give them a mild 'clean up' myself. Love those pushrod covers, those are definitely on my list.

The Pushrod Kit is from NRHS.

Pushrods - Hurricane XB (4) $102.50
Covers & Billet base pushrod set $164.95
They are top quality, "zippers".

Also getting the headers ceramic coated, black to match the D&D pipe.

Will post all the results / photos up here.

Take a look at NRHS website, all the info is there, incl the CNC headwork data.

I'm going to suggest two mods to the throttle body:

#1 run a #6-32 taper tap down through the emissions vacuum port and insert a set screw with loctite to seal it. The reason is that after only a year I found the rubber cap all rotten and cracked. Alternate might be to fill with JB Weld but that is a lot more permanent than I like to do on my mods.


#2 consider drilling and tapping a #10-32 hole in the side of the TB for a MAP sensor. This apparently connects to the wire for the active muffler valve. For now I have a setscrew in the hole because I'm not entirely ready to make the upgrade to MAP sensor.


Other people have welded a chunk on the side of the TB and drilled/tapped for the more common 1/8 pipe thread, but I don't have a welder so I had to look for an alternative.

I'm also seeing a sharp step transition between the ground throttle plate area and the rougher plenum area (XB9 has a two piece design, I'm working with an XB12 TB), not sure what I'm going to do to smooth that out. I'll probably do the same mods to my XB9 TB when I get around to it.

Great idea, I have already replaced that rubber cap on the throttle body twice in a two month time period.

Please keep us posted on your 1050cc mods , I really want to hear your opinions when you ride them , how much power increase you notice . Thats what I want to do to my XB9 !

Why did you get the adjustable pushrods Briz31 ? Are they needed because of the Head Work ? Cams ? Did I miss something ?

Pushrods..
1. NRHS advised to use them (IF) the compression goes above 11.0. and the CAMS are changed.
2. I HATED THE LOOK OF THE PLASTIC COVERS.
3. They are stronger than the stock ones.

I have had the heads made for compression 10.5 / Cylinders are rated at 10.5.
CAMS are still stock, there was no need to change them.
Many people here and also NRHS said, the Cams in the XB's are good quality.

Ok I have a question for you engine builders that have done a build like this or similar should 9 headers be kept on a 1050 kit or should you use 12 headers? Just wondering because I am planning on doing this build sometime in the near future once I have the funds in place to do it.

As far as I know Stock headers on the xbs are the same for a 9 or a 12....

12 headers are quite a bit bigger. At least up to 08 domestic. Don't know about other years or markets.

12 headers are much larger diameter. It's a question that I'm still thinking about since I have both and still not sure which way I'll go. Bonus is that my 12 header has an O2 bung welded in already so I can log both cylinders. The one thing that was mentioned the last time this came up is that the larger headers will have a higher RPM were they come into peak power/torque. If you are racing then the larger header is definitely of value since you will be 3000 or above at all times, on the street I'm not sure which way to go. I am going with the 12 throttle body which is bigger than the 9 TB which again is going to change the way the power/torque curves are presented.
