Hey guys, I know some of you run these exhausts. Do the front pipes just tend to develop cracks over time? I bought one and cleaned it all up purty and have run it on my XB street bike for maybe 8,000 miles. It has developed a couple cracks that I have had fixed, but I got another little crack I noticed. The small front piece, I'm having duplicated out of new pipe. Love the pipe but do they all suffer from cracking? | ||

It is a pretty rare pipe, I don't know anybody that ever rode one on the street. Are you sure it is installed correctly? Improperly installed exhausts can cause damage to various bits due to vibration, specifically the exhaust header studs. I'd make sure it is mounted on there good. | ||

I had to adjust it around a bit for clearance and it actually fits well, not loose or rubbing anywhere or tweaked that I can tell when mounted up. Thanks for the advise. | ||

They are known for the cracking. The last ones made had another slip coupling between the exhaust ports and the muffler. Seemed to help. My Beson would crack every couple months but then I fell on it a couple times and switched to the TiForce. As loud as the Beson is, are you sure you want to ride it on the street? It is too loud to even race. Few tracks will even let you run it any more. | ||

My front pipe is the two piece one. I was provided with a bitched up spare front pipe thats the one piece but it doesn't fit as nice. It is loud but no where near as irritating a sound as say a Jardine slip on. It has a nice roar to it when you give it the spurs though. Not really too bad just putting around. I might quiet it down just a bit. I have been contemplating getting the exhaust tip turned a bit away from the swingarm and might try to hush it down. Thanks for the info Slaughter. | ||

I had mine modified to have the slip-coupling halfway down the headers. Seemed to help Falling sure didn't help though. I talked to other racers about the Beson back when Tom Beson was still making them - and they said that the extra coupling really was a necessity. If you have a good racing exhaust fabricator/welder in your area, it will be $100 well spent to have him put in a second coupling. | ||

Huh, never thought about adding another one in. Might look at that. That would let a guy adjust the fit a little easier too I expect. Thanks | ||

Yes indeed. The spring coupling DID give some relief - otherwise you could just feel that it was under some stress when it all got tightened down. | ||

Slaughter, could you post a picture so I could what you mean. I have a Beson, but it came on the bike when I bought it a few months ago. So, I'm having a hard time visualizing what you mean. It's a neat pipe, but I can't imagine riding with one on the street on a hot summer day. At the end of a sprint race on a hot day, my foot is pretty warm. | ||

I'll see if I can find the pieces. Put them in a box a couple months back when I put the TiForce pipe on. Should have some pics in a day or so - Monday at the latest, getting ready for races this weekend so spare time is short. | ||

I got a deal on the fabrication - he asked me to put the muffler shop sticker on the bike but I THINK that he was going to charge like $100 for both ($50 each) YMMV (Message edited by slaughter on July 14, 2011) | ||

Thank you for the response and pictures, it's really appreciated. I'll have to take a look at mine when I get to NJMP tomorrow. The weird thing is, I'm pretty sure I have four springs (two on each side) at that point in the header, but I'll have to get a closer look at that. | ||

Two would be better on each joint but since I've got a solid inch of overlap, I just let it go at that. Actually where I marked to make the cut turned out to be right where the pipes came really close together and where we first welded the hooks, it made it impossible to get to the other side. (my fault for not properly marking the pipes) |
