On my 07 XB9R , I have no brake light . Changed bulb (it looked fine , but just in case) no fix , checked fuse , no bad fuses . The running tail light comes on , but no brake light from the hand lever or foot control . May be a loose connector some where in the harness ? Anyone run into this ? Tried to do a search , but the search was not working for some reason .

Did you check the wires and connector behind the housing?

It seems , it would not be the switches at the controls , they wouldn't both go bad at the same time . So I would think it had to be some where past that , in the harness . You think ?

Check the switches anyway. Its possible one failed a while back and you didn't know, then the other failed recently.

Use a multimeter to ohm out the wiring and to check to see if the switch is functioning properly.

Go out and buy a bulb.
Had the same thing happen, bulb looked good, but wasn't.

He said he changed it. Also you can check the bulb with a DMM.

Yeah , I have tried 3 bulbs , no luck . I took the tail off and traced wires , looked for loose or bad connectors , chafed wires , nothing I could see . It seems there is no juice going to orange w/yellow stripe wire on the tail light connector . I dont know what else to try other than the switches ....

Does all the power for the brake light circuit run through the front/back switch ?
Are those switches expensive ?

This is the first issue I have had with this bike .

I mean- could one switch out cause no brake with both switches ?}

Well I wouldn't have believed it if I had not seen it , Both my front and rear brake switches are bad !!
I took the connector off the switches one at a time , bypassing them , then I shorted them across the connector and the brake light came on ! Both switches !

Froggy , you hit the nail on the head , one or the other could have gone out awhile ago and I did not notice , now they are both out , lol .
Thanks for the help all .

And this is why you do pre-ride inspections...

Glad you found it, but you really should have noticed your brake switches were out before both failed. I check mine at least every week, if not more often. Then again, I've got the XBLight with a flasher, so I can easily check any time it's dark out. Do I see myself flashing off the bumper of whatever's behind me?
