How often? When does it happen? Why do those seal cook? Would a "always on fan" help as in the latest MYs? Is the aftermarket right scoop really beneficial on older models or is it just cooling the temp sensor too much?

Mine started leaking at 10k miles. MY2007 XB12STT never ridden in clogged traffic and I installed since the very first day the RSS.

Questions ... your experience?

I thought I had a rocker leak on mine - sure looked like it. All over the fan, etc.

Turned out to be the rear the grommet for the PCV valve.

The rear PCV valve was hitting against the top of the frame (X-brace) and enlarged the grommet hole to where it was flopping around.

I just ordered a new grommet and PCV valve ($13.08 total)

17607-00Y ...PCV Vale
17606-00YA ...Grommet

YMMV

Any pics of that grommet?

The '07 model year seems to be severely afflicted with rockerbox gasket issues. Most of the posts that deal with rockerbox gasket/oil leak issues almost always seem to be on '07 bikes. There was definitely a problem of some sort.

PCV Valve - PCV stands for 'Pretty Cool Valve'-

Grommet (top of Rocker Box)-- with the PCV Valve in place, it (the PCV Valve) hits the x-brace (as the engine thrashes about) and
enlarges the grommet hole, the oil leaks out and runs down the head, into the fan, etc. - damn, I hate when that happens.

Grommet (top of rocker Box)- showing X-Brace and Oil Leakage.

I was thinking of taking a Dremel to the offending area of the X-Brace nearest the PCV valve and doing some
grinding, so that it doesn't hit the X-Brace as the engine moves around.

I would check the hoses and the rubber engine mounts before considering a grinder to the frame.

""I would check the hoses and the rubber engine mounts before considering a grinder to the frame.""

Oh sure, that may be the smart way, even the right way to do it, but you see it flies in the face of
my devil-may-care style – you see, Greg_e, it’s just not the way JohnBoy rolls, buddy.

Grind first - then see what happens.
