Eh guys, I just crashed my '09 Translucent Blue XB12Scg.

I got a few stitches on the left knee and road rashes here and there... but the bike, oh it's ruined.

Too bad about the bike, but atleast you came out of it pretty well. How did it happen?

A car came out of business parking lot and didn't look and didn't stop. The front wheel locked and slid under at about 10 feet or so before the car, I slid and rolled right in front of it. It was the rolling that I missed the front bumper. I saw it came at me quick and thought that I would get broken shoulder at least.

I was a block from work, I was out to get a network patch panel. So I didn't wear the pant and gloves. I had locked the front wheel before and I released and reapplied and missed those close calls. But not this time, as soon as it locked up I was down.

I was at local motorcycle accessories store yesterday and was seriously thinking about the Fox knee braces, but complaint about how they being a bit much. It' NOT funny how these things work.

So I see that my skill is not as good as I thought, and that I'm riding more than my 80% limit, even though being able to ride at the speed limit comfortably in Santa Cruz hills. I will slow down even more then.

I am thankful.

Glad to hear that it sounds like you will be able to heal up quick. Sorry about the bike though.

This is exactly why I would like to have ABS on my next bike if possible. Few people are as good as they really think, probably myself included. Even worse is that stupid drivers will ruin your day in a heartbeat. Yesterday coming home from work I had a truck not paying attention around a gentle curve and came 3/4 of the way into my lane coming straight at me. Happily I had nobody in the lane to my right, or I could have wound up far worse off than you.

So how bad is the frame? Many other parts can be done fairly cheaply if you have some patience and just a bit of mechanical ability. My wife had a spill on her Street Triple early this summer that probably would have been a total had we gone through insurance. I've got it looking good enough that it's hard to tell it's been down for about half of what my deductible would have been.

Couple of lessons here.

1. All the gear all the time. Riding without gloves is really, how shall I put it, ah, dumb. Some have said they would rather ride without a helmet than without gloves.

2. Ride defensively all the time. You probably could have picked up some movement out of the corner of your eye when the car was still in the lot.
That was the time to start planning your evasion. Can't count on a cage to do the right thing. That's a bet with real bad odds.

3. A good defensive plan beats fast reflexes every time. By the time you got on the brakes, you had probably target fixated on the car. Better plan would have been to start to steer away from the car the second it appeared in your peripheral vision.
Easier said than done, understood.

4. The good news is that a replacement Buell has never been cheaper.

Glad you're relatively OK.

To add to what Gentleman_jon said, it's also a good idea to practice emergency braking every time you get a chance (something I could do more of myself). You want proper technique (i.e.- braking as hard as possible without locking the wheels) to be a reflex.

What bother me more now is that I know all these that you guys mentioned.

But then again, inexperience so survival instinct took over.

Whether it true or not I say now that I was actually riding above my 80%, even though it didn't seem that way, and so "text book" happened.

Still, I am thankful.

DAMN! I just crashed this afternoon. Playing around in a parking lot pushing my comfort zone a bit doing figure eights. Front end slid out from under me. I'm not sure what's worse, the dent in my header pipe or the fact that I can't get a replacement frame slider for my XB12Ss.

BTW, I'm fine, just pissed at myself!

Regarding the frame pucks, see this post in the 1125 forum:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=290431&post=1941621#POST1941621

Apparently the individual pucks are available, just not the set of two. Al Lighton was going to confirm it and get some at American Sport Bike if this is true.

Glad your O.K. remember, ATGATT....

I just ordered some frame pucks a couple months ago from my local Harley dealer. They had them then.

Good luck.

I had a deer jump in front of me a couple weeks ago! Came out of the ditch from my right and crossed my path while I was doing 60.Glad I was in good practice stabbing the front brake, had I not I`d a got her in her left rear but instead missed her by 10 feet!
Was on my way home from work around 3 in the morning and sleepy too.Had i been a bit more alert I`d a seen her sooner but being able to put the front to near lock up for a split second gave me the time i needed to miss, needles to say i was awake the rest of the way home. Good practice makes for good reflexes when needed even when your a middle aged geezer like me. Glad your ok and hope you find another ride!

not as nice as the fox but saved me some real hurt when I went down

they are tons cheaper than the fox so the loss of protection is ok in my mind because they are still a great product.
