I just ordered my Erik Buell Racing race ECM : ). Super excited. Been dreaming about taking my bike to have it tuned ever sense I got it dyno'd and saw how wacky the fueling was in September, but for the price this seems like the way to go for me.

Now my question is, K&N seems like a given, but do I need/want the open airbox?

Also if I do get it, what do I do about the servo? Its not being used (I have a Drummer) but its still in place electronically, just cut the valve cable.

Don't cut the cable, just remove it, there could be some purist here that might want it.

I've already removed the cable(D&D pipe) but left servo plugged in. I'm waiting for my ECM fund to get bigger before I do the open airbox mod. But it's coming.

You don't need to do the open airbox. I spoke with Dan at Erik Buell Racing when he had my bike on the dyno there. He said an open airbox basically won't do shit as far a power gains. Dan is the one that had been making all the fuel maps for Buell since 03. So I would think he knows what he's talking about.

As for the servo. Just completely remove it. The race ecm has the servo turned off, so your engine light won't come on.

Your bike basically has an open airbox from the factory.
You can change the filter for a bit more airflow, you might as well wait until the stock filter is dirty, no need to rush.

Thanks Rsh! Just went with K&N no open airbox. Stock has been cleaned a few times but is nothing like new plus my new ECM is tuned for the K&N. Can't wait to install!

Jraice, good to see you (or whatever you call it on a forum?) Just my .02 instead of taking the cable and servo out just zip tie the cable to the bike and leave it. That way if you, or someone you sell it to someday, want to put it back to stock it's super easy. The reason I mention is because I took my cable off the bike when I installed the Drummer and now I find out Laguna Seca won't let you run with a pipe that loud. So if I want to put the stocker back on I have to figure out how to get that cable back in there..
