Ok I'm getting a bit frustrated with an ongoing issue with my 2 wheeled machine. I have 8xx miles on my bike and since new I have had a hesitation/backfire/popping just off idle hot or cold with my bike. At 6xx miles it was back to the dealer with a dead cylinder. I was told the wire on the bank angle sensor was shorted to power killing that one cylinder. Bad factory connection fixed and the bike was running great. Power wheelied 2nd gear on the way home fast forward a few weeks and the weird popping when you rev to leave from a light or whatever is back and the bike seems sluggish. Maybe I'm imagining things idk. But it stalls leaving traffic lights from time to time because of this. Any ideas? Possible fouled plug? I know there are air box mods and breather reroutes out there but should I really need/have to be doing these things? Please help shed some light on my situation because I really want to just ride. Also it seems as though its really loud sounding coming from my airbox cover on decel or steady throttle between say 2500 to 3500ish rpm? Strange or normal? I'm a noob to this buell game I'm used to shovelheads and i4s

I live very close to you in case if you want me to check it out. It most likely is a fouled spark plug, which is quite common on new bikes.

Thanks for the input froggy. The plugs have been changed once already but ill try that again first I think. Any suggestions as the bace replacement plugs? From lurking around here you seem to be the fuel mileage master roumd here

Hmm, I'll have to look at my plugs as well then, on occasion I've had the bike bog way down and almost stall on me on take off... Not fun in the middle of a crowded intersection.

This is a problem with all stock xb12s. Those who say they've never had the issue probably just ride differently. S10, the only way I've found to fix this is to install the Erik Buell Racing race ecm (requires a new pipe too). The timing and fuel changes did wonders to throttle response especially at from idle. Give ebr a few weeks to perfect the ddfi3 race ecm's - they're reflashing mine now for the 2nd time.

Thanks Krueger I'll keep that in mind. Tonight was a bit different still had my stumble around idle and she got real tipsy in the curves. I think it was a combo of my tire pressure being off plus my suspension being stiff and my passenger not flowing as good as she usually does. made for an interesting hour ride home late at night...

Just throwing my .02 cents in - I have a 2009ss. First year everything was fine, This year the plugs were bad (which I thought was interesting since I didn't put too many miles on it. Put on a Drummer a few weeks ago; which, caused all kinds of decel pop, and low end hp drop. Put the Erik Buell Racing ECM - specific to the Drummer, and to be honest - can't be happier. ALL of the decel pop is gone, as well as the hp drop. Was running really hot as well, but since the install of the ECM - all is well. I recommend it.. made a pretty big difference. btw, got the budget model - $250.

Ok so I am having my dealer do my 1k service check everything out and whatnot. and i complained about the sputtering again etc etc Do you think it is possible/wise to try to talk them into a ecm reflash? I really want the '10 fan strategy and everyone seems to say with the '10 program the bikes are running a ton better. Thoughts? anything else i should ask them to do? I am under warranty...

I have the 2010 flash. The bike runs much better. The take off is much smoother. It's not perfect, but hasn't died on me since. Before, I was having the same symptoms you are. The bike would die, from time to time, when leaving from a dead stop. It usually happened around 2,800 rpm.

Danbury loves to charge for the ECM update yet it is free and covered under warranty. Just a heads up, also they can't make up their minds on how much it costs, once they tried to get $20 another time it was $50. Just a heads up.

Froggy appreciate the heads up, I will go guns loaded. I am never one to pay for anything that is covered under warranty. I work/worked in the service repair industry most of my adult life so I have a way of handling those sort of things in a certain manner. And honestly as far as Danbury HD goes they have been go to me so far so.... fingers crossed.
@Xbgeorge thanks for the info. After seeing multiple people say what you are saying I am definitely going to fight to get the reflash, at least that should help until I get my exhaust K&N and ErikBuellRacing ECM

I have a 2009 XB12SS and it has run outstanding since I got it in November. I have about 4000 miles so far, and its all stock. What is different about the fan program on the 2010 flash?

I have a 2008 XB12Ss that has an updated cal and it runs much better and has slightly better fuel economy. They should update the cal under warranty. It was one of the last things the powertrain group was working on.

I dropped it off yesterday. Explained all my issues and stated that according to my research an ecm update with the 2010 parameter has been shown to help the situation quite a bit. The service writer said ok we will take care of it, plus the other issues. we will see how it all goes when its time to pick her up next week.
