So my bike has recently began having problems recognizing neutral after its been ridden for a little while. The bike will actually go into neutral but the computer is not recognizing that the bike is in neutral, therefore the starter will not turn. Keep in mind that this doesn't usually happen when I first crank it after its been sitting overnight, just after I've warmed it up. It always cranks when the neutral light is on and it will never start if the neutral light is off. It doesn't even matter if you pull the clutch in, still won't start. My guess is that its the neutral indicator switch, but I'm no mechanic. Any other guesses? | ||

Is this the 04 12S in your profile? Interesting that it still won't start with the clutch pulled in, that makes me think your clutch switch is dead along with something going on with your neutral switch. | ||

yea that's my bike, 04 xb12s. I was thinking about just grounding the neutral indicator switch for the time being, since I'm going on a long ride this weekend. I'm pretty sure that will make the neutral light stay on all the time but it should also start whenever I hit the button. | ||

I had this exact same problem. When I took my bike in for the 10K service, I had them look at this issue. I couldn't remember what the exact problem was so I dug out my paperwork. (I tried to attach the paperwork, but am having issues, so I will list the part numbers below): Part # Description 27671-01K 32335-04 33900-99 Neutral Indicator SW 31522-00C Relay, SPDT, Micro W I don't know what the first part is. It seems to me, though, that the relay was the problem. All three parts cost $35.00. I hope that helps. | ||

Same issue on a ride last year. Neutral switch easy fix in 10-15 minutes | ||

i think I just had a loose connection here. I unplugged the lead wire then reconnected it. Seems to be working fine now. I spliced a ground wire into the lead wire with a scotchlock just for safety purposes. If the bike fails to find neutral while I'm out riding, I can just touch the safety wire to a ground and it should start. |
