being new to owning a buell let alone a bike that makes any noice what-so-ever, i'm still getting used to the noises and everything that come from my bike. today when i got home from school i noticed that my bike was making a clicking sound. my fan didnt come on at all when i turned the bike off, is it normal for the fan to not always be on when you turn your bike off? i rode about 15 min home at about 65mph. just curious if this clicking was just the engine cooling down or if my fan should have turned on....or whats the deal....

It does get worrying sometimes when your used to hearing the fan come on...lol.
But you failed to say anything about the outside temperature. Where I'm from it's just getting into spring weather...but feels like winter still...and ya the fan doesn't come on ...on short rides when it's cold out.

With your bike, the fan will not come on if it didn't warm up enough. During the sub freezing winters in NY, the fan pretty much never comes on for me, so I end up stuffing rags in the oil cooler to help bring up the temperature.

I recommend you use ECMspy and run a fan diagnostic in the mean time to make sure its still working. Usually a dead fan will throw a code and light up the check engine light, sometimes it won't.

Exactly what I was going to say. My dash light came on one day on the way home from work. Hit the exit ramp, no fan. I got home, no fan. Definitely should have been running after a 40 mile ride in the middle of a FL summer. Threw it on the spy and it told me the fan was dead. Takes a little time but pretty easy to swap out. I put it on a 12V power supply before I completely ripped the ass end apart and sure enough, it wanted to spin but no go...

well first off it was in the mid 50's today...so it wasnt really warm, and the bike sat outside at school all day and then i took it on my 15 min ride home at 65mph.

and second off, after posting the OP i went back out to the garage after the bike cooled down a bit (just in case the fan wasnt working) and took it up and down my dead end street about a dozen times trying to see 1. if the fan would turn on and 2. try to figure out what this tapping noise i have was.

after getting on the throttle a bit the fan did turn on, so i'm guessing it just wasnt turning on earlier b/c it wasnt very warm out and b/c i wasnt getting on the throttle very hard on the way home from school.

as far as the tapping noise goes....well i narrowed that problem down as well! up under my front fairing i had some little plastic piece that was attatched to a wire just kinda hangin there (so i zip tied it so it wouldnt be flailing around anymore). and also my left headlight housing part is loose so i'm guessing thats making some noice when i'm downshifting and causing the bike to vibrate like they tend to do : )

i havent tried to figure how to tighten up that headlight housing to much yet, i looked up under there and tried to tighten the bolts holding it in (or i thought thats what they were) but instead i accidently changed the angle of my headlight. so now my question is how to i tighten up the headlight housing peice so it doesnt move around on me?

Take the front fairing off. Pull the mirrors and turn signals, and it comes right off. Then you will see what is happening.

I had a noise I just lived with when I first had my bike...it came from the flyscreen area. One day I pulled off the cover and found out the horn bracket was broken....fixed it and the noise went away.
A month later the same noise came back...it broke again...this time I used heavier gage metal with a piece of hard rubber inbetween....never broke again.

yea i'll probably take my front fairing off tonight and check out the loose headlight housing peice, and check to make sure thats the only loose thing under there. but i may have to wait till after it cools down a bit, because its a beautiful 60ish degree day out and i may just have to go out for a ride!

There are post like connections there at the headlight that hold them in. You'll see them once you've done what Nut stated.
