im rockin the vistacruise for less than 30

it won't get effed up in a tipover, or annoyingly set when i didn't want it to be
easy to set/release with a flick of your thumb.
it is an adjustable friction lock, so the throttle can be closed with out releasing. i even rode around town for like 5 miles with it set one time

but ...
if your set on a bar-end, throttlemeister is another to consider

Which vistacruise did you use? They sell a few different models.

the standard one for 7/8 inch bars. fits most hondas. not the universal version.

you can see where i hacked it off to fit. you might have to sand it/the grip down to get some space/clearance. but it is definitely worth the trouble IMHO

Thanks, I'll look for the Hondas. I've got the one with the bar on the Firebolt but it required cutting the grip, which I can't do to the XT because of the heated grips.

Anyone with the heated grips from the factory able to pull them out 1/8" to install one of the vistacruise's in there? I have a vistacruise already, but the grip is too close to the housing to get it to work. I don't want to start stabbing a flat head screwdriver under it with the heating element inside.

I have heated grips, I'm still convinced the Kaoko is the way to go.

If you are willing to spend $150 on it then you are probably correct.

I am not willing to spend $150 in one, and I also am installing Bark Buster guards, which would not allow me to install the Kaoko.

i put the heated grips on myself, and was able to push the grip back enough, but the throttle tube has a extra material (a ridge) that needs to be sanded away to fit the vista cruise in there.
basically i need to get some cajones and start hacking away at it, but those heated grips are so nice, i don't wanna eff them up.

I just installed the Kaoko throttle stop. This is a real nice set up. It installs easy with no modifications. It works perfect. I got it from Blackdog Cycle works in Idaho, $150 and they pay the shipping. I'll post pictures later.

I have one that came on my uly that I bought used. It works fine. Fit and finish is good. I don't think I'd pay 150.00 for it though.

Use a small bunji cord. Wrap it around once or twice stuffed between the grip and the switchgear.

At least that's what I've heard. I've never done that before, but it seems like a pretty cost effective answer. If you crash and hurt/kill yourself it's not my fault.

Required materials:

1 metal coat hanger
3-4" of heat shrink tube

Cut the bottom straight portion of the hanger, then put heat shrink tube around the center of it and shrink to fit. Use enough heat shrink so that it will contact all around the circumference of your throttle grip. (the rubbery heat shrink surface provides more "traction" against the grip than just the bare coat hanger)

Center the coat hanger vertically behind the grip, then bend it around the grip and pull both ends toward the front brake lever.

Twist the ends together until the twist moves back close to the grip. Test the amount of friction between the hangar and the grip as you go - too tight and you'll damage your rubber grip - too much slack and the throttle will spring closed easily (especially during vibration while the engine is running)

That's pretty much it. Use your pointer finger to push the hangar down onto the brake lever when you want to lock the throttle. If you got the twists right, you should easily be able to force the throttle closed which will rotate the hangar back to a neutral position.

You can put more heat shrink around the twists to hide them as well as covering the bare metal ends of the hangar and preventing them from rusting. BUT if you consider this mod then you're probably not concerned with appearance anyway : )

Blackdog, Do the Kaeko's fit the same on the 12's as the 9's? I got a nine and currently have a generic throttle lock. I would assume they are the same, it is just that Kaeko only advertises them to fit on the 12's.

the handle bars on the 9 and the 12 are the same so yes if they say they will fit a 12 then they will fit the 9 also.

I bought a Vista Cruise before I realized and/or read above that it won't work with heated grips. If anybody wants it let me know. I paid $29 with shipping. I'll sell it for $19 including shipping. Before I realized it wouldn't fit, I had already ground off the cable extension thingy that is useless on our bikes.
