I thought I would save some $$$ and use my race take offs on my 08XB12R street bike. My latest take off was a Pirelli Super Corsa 190/55 (fit with no problem on my 04 XB12R). I put it on the 08 and the clearance looked pretty tight, but not too bad. I went for a short 20 mile ride to PaulXB12R's house.

Once there, I noticed there was some oil on the muffler. I looked under the muffler and front part of the swing arm was wet and dripping with oil. I also noticed a groove worn around the center of the tire.

Trailered the bike back home and pulled the rear tire. A close inspection of the swing arm revealed a hairline crack in the center weld, on the under part of the swing arm (not where the tire rubbed)!!!! F@$%!!!!!

The only 2 posibilities I can think of are the tire exerted that much force against the swing arm, it caused the underside weld to flex and crack or the weld was bad.

I removed the swing arm and now must get it fixed.... Dang the luck!!!!!!

So, DO NOT try a 190/55 tire on an 08 XB!!!!!!!!!

Call Buellgator and Check and see if its covered by warranty. I have heard of the newer style (post 05) swing arms cracking right were you described.

Dude, I wrecked from a swingarm failure, get that repaired ASAP. My failure was from the shock mount, not underneath the swingarm. Either way, the results are not pretty.

Anyway a 190/50 should be fine, not sure about a 55, but I doubt that was the cause of your issue.

The 190/55 tire did rub against the swing arm (not where it cracked) and inner fender.

I plan to call BuellGator tomm and see if anything can be done warranty wise. If not, I'll have to get it re-welded.

There were no issues running it on an 04.
