just wondered if any of the buell warranty people have tried to say if you changed anything on the bike the warranty is void.
if so that is wrong,if you replace anything with non oem units,only those parts are now non warranty items.
like Jraice and his lube/shifting deal,dont let them give you any carp about warranty as they suggested it !!
and running any oil in your engine wont change any of that either.there are lubricating oil standards with in the oil industry,HD oil is just oil,it is nothing special,just another product from a marketing company.i did hear they make motorcycles too.

Yes and no. If your mods cause damage or run the bike out of it's designed tolerances...then yes you have voided your warranty. Oil for example, this is a very incorrect statement: "running any oil in your engine wont change any of that either". Check your manual, the required types of oil are listed (not brands, types).

Yes and no . . . . is precisely right.

What you are describing is KIND OF the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

On one level you are absolutely correct. But, on a practical level I've found most Buell techs to be lacking as legal scholars and adverse to legal advise, particularly in the form of veiled threats, from customers.

Buell has a reputation that is without equal in the motorcycle (and I'd bet car) industry for standing behind their products without regard for the warranty period. Last year I gave away over $15,000 worth of Buell parts (mostly body work) for bikes going back to 1997. I have a new tank shipping for a guy tomorrow that will go in a 1999 S3-T.

Buell. . . . and no company in our litigious society could reduce such a practice to writing. . . . has demonstrated a philosophy of "if we are responsible, we'll happily correct the problem" It's unheard of and unbelievable.

Let me also add that I have seen (about 4 the last year) folks who totally and incompetently screwed up their own motorcycle and came to Buell making "you'd better fix it or else" threats. That's not good and I sometimes have been unpopular when I explain to someone that "ECM Spied" their bike to death that the moment you change ANYTHING you effectively become a test rider and 100% responsible for the outcomes and consequences.

I've found the best outcomes are when all parties subscribe to the BUELL VALUES and are honest and open with each other. I've seen two engines given away (well, at least the "parts" paid for) to folks who were 100% responsible for screwing them up but we totally honest and got a "hey, you're in a bind, we'll help you out" response.

Bottom like is you are kinda right but it'd be like me parading down Madison Avenue with a pistol on my hip citing the 2nd Amendment. . . .

By the way . . . . if you ARE going to cite that "the oil if functionally equivalent" argument . . . . be mindful that YOU are responsible (as in laboratory tests, expert witness fees and so forth) for proving that . . . not the company. One of those cases where you could be "right" and spend thousands to be PROVEN right. Chose your battles carefully.

i hear u court,sorry should have said i meant any 5 brands of 20/50 for the engine are very likey all useable and for the purpose,the same.my example is like HD oil for engine and say castrol 20/50
both brand name and both have lubricating oil industry standards,so either is fine and all.not meaning you can pour 5w30 in and go and warranty is good.
there are a few places i use the OEM stuff....my trans in my jeep-it take ATF-4 and i used the mopar brand.

The OP did mention oil standards so yes any oil that is 20W50 and meets the standards is safe to use. There are laws against saying you must use the OEM stuff.

And yeah they suggested I go with Syn3 over Formula+. If its something else that made it shift bad then so be it, if thats the cause, you bet they are going to fix it free of charge if they want to maintain there reputation! They got me to buy the bike because they gave me a decent deal and said anybody (I believed it after seeing some other dealers) who could beat it would not be able to compete in the long run service wise, and the dealer I got it from has higher hour labor costs as well but it is worth it for a bike that is not bullet-proof (getting close).
