Hey guys, as some of you know there has been talk about setting up a Buell Track day down here in the Lone Star State. Well, I just recieved confirmation that Mancusso HD out of Houston TX is putting on a track day for the BRAG/HOG folks. Yep, they are gonna let the Harleys out there also. Here is the info I have:

When: Monday March 29th, 2004
Cost: 150 per person
Location: Texas World Speedway, Bryan, TX.

Im still waiting to hear the specific requirements about gear. From what Rodney Scott at Cen. Tex HD told me, its boots that cover the ankles, pants (didnt say leather, maybe jeans are okay) Leather Gloves, Helmet, and Jacket - no word on if it has to be leather or not. I have full leathers, so Im not worried about it.
Rodney also mentioned that they are going to try to have leather rentals out there, no confirmation on this yet.

The organizer's name is Keith, his contact # is 281.970.9700 that is the shops main number and you will need to ask for him.

Rodney Scott, of Cent Tx Harley Davidson says he can do the registrations also. His information is below.
Email: SBarkalow@centraltexasharley.com (case sensitive)
Phone: 512.973.8521 ext 122 (or just tell whoever picks up to connect you to Rodney Scott)
His Fax # 512 973 8526
For security reasons, I would encourage you to NOT email your Credit Card numbers.

From what he told me, he will get your contact info, email addy, and CC# and fax them to Keith for registration.

I hope we can get a good turn out for this. Supposedly they are going to have some XB's and some blasts to ride around. I told Rodney I would like to challenge him to a race on some blasts - Godfrey I would love to get you out there on one also. Just to have some fun. The mental images of a Buell Blast putting down the main straight at all of 60 mph is just to comical to me.

Come on gang, take the day off work, call in sick if you have to! lets go ride!

Monday??? I don't think you are going to get a very good turnout for that since most of us will have to work I imagine.

BTW,
That $150 cost is $10 more than the normal weekday fee for TWS. Doesn't seem like a good deal to me???

Considering that you pay 140 to ride on a Monday with Lone Star Track Days (170 if you sign up for classes) or 135 for a weekday with Ridesmart(this includes instruction, but the ratio of instructor to student is much lower)
Its about in the same price neighborhood. These guys have to cover their own costs also.
From what I gather there will be classroom sessions and also instructors (Rodney gave me their names, but I forget who they were)

I dont mind paying 150 for a track day where the other participants are going to be either Harleys or Buells. Will be nice to "compete" (although its not a race) with bikes like mine. I see it as a great opportunity to ride with my Buell-brethren.
To me its a great way to meet other Buellers in the state, thats worth the extra 10 bucks to me.

Just about all track days are on Monday or Fridays. The costs go up to rent the track on the Weekend.
Me? I get 2 weeks vacation plus some paid floating holidays at my job, I just take one of those and head to the track. The event being held on a Monday is what I consider normal.

OK Im in if they will let me (Im sponsored by competing Houston dealer!). I guess they'll be openining the oval for the Harley's ? Oh I can see the carnage now at Turn 1 as they try to bank the Electra-Glides off the banking into a very fast lefthander that tightens up on you. Sounds like a Blast.

I guess BRAG membership is a must ?

Here are the details from Keith's email to the Texas Streetfighters (Houston Buellers)

Hi folks: It's official! I am now taking reservations for our first track day at Texas Motor Speedway Monday March 29! The cost is $150 and includes track school.
Here's what you need:
Full Face Helmet (NOT a flip-up)
Leather jacket
Leather pants (*Note: synthetics also allowed.
Boots
Full-fingered gloves
If you lack track-appropriate gear, you can rent it at trackleathers.com.
You will need to remove the mirrors from your bike and cover the headlight. (I recommend also removing the fuse so the light doesn't bake on the tape.)
Instruction starts at 8, inspection starts at 7a.
Please call me at 281-897-7121. I need to reaffirm all your address, phone #, etc., and get payment. I can accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express over the phone. If you want to use a check, money order or cash, you will need to stop by the dealership.
I will send confirmation letters in about 10 days.
I already have some folks signed up...remember that only the first 75 can be included.
Cheers, Keith

I bet even I could get a Blast well above 60 mph down the home straight.

I didn't realize there was instruction being provided. You are right, that cost is right in line then. I just wish it wasn't on a Monday!!

Hell Mark - I got CTHD stickers on both sides of my bike I dont think it matters.

I'd like to see a fatboy with engine guards take on the wagonwheel.

Hey guys,

This is a good deal as most "Track days" include a bunch of 4-Cylinder bone heads that think it is their life's mission to "buzz" you.

I think a "Buell Only" Track day is good. I would also recommend that you explore doing a special event with RideSmart or LSTD where they have a group setup ONLY for Buell riders. This will cut your costs down.

I will also be glad to put on a free suspension setup class for your group.

Marcus

Marcus,
I will definately take you up on the suspension class!!

I saw Rodney Scott this morning and gave him all my info.
Darn key broke off in my gas cap this morning, thank god I was right by the dealership.
I really like my dealership, the minute they see me in the service dept they start looking for an XB12 for me to ride while my bike is getting fixed up.

I'm the proud driver of an XB12S-Red today. Man its weird going back to driving and S after riding an R. That whole "sit up straight" thing just felt different.
