I am about to pull the trigger on ECM spy or a race ecm. The only reason I have waited so long is I am terrified that I will screw up my bikes computer with ECM spy. My laptop also has vista. Sounds like I need to run ECM spy in administrative mode to use it. I dont even know what that means. Should I just get a race ECM or is ECM spy easier than it sounds?

I have ECMspy on my laptop and I run Vista with no problems. I just make sure I have NO other programs open or running. ECMspy is a challenge, but there is lots of help, so you should be fine.

No, you can use VDSTS, Harley Digital Tech and a few other programs.

All solutions involve a cable.

You can also screw up your bike with a hammer or a wrench. Its just another tool.

Only if you run into issues running it.

Odds are your laptop is setup incorrectly and running in administrator mode anyway.

Get both. You can't just plug in a Race ECM and expect everything to work. TPS needs to be reset either way.

I am about to pull the trigger on ECM spy or a race ecm. The only reason.... terrified that I will screw up.... should I just get a race ECM or is ECM spy easier than it sounds? which is cheaper a stock or race ECM? you can put the race data onto your stock ECM with ecmspy... I have a spare 12 ECM (two stockers), so I plan to put the race ecm data on the spare

No, you can use VDSTS, Harley Digital Tech and a few other programs
so there's now way of doing a tps reset with a combination of turning the ignistion off & on in tandem with other nessassary steps and whojamaflachas?

VDSTS is a commercial program for checking ecm's. The company is(not sure I can say the name here): Techno Research. They make software/hardware for lots of applications. I tried to use my Buell version on my buddies Road King and got it to connect, but it won't read it. Called them up and they said I'd have to purchase another "package". ECMspy seems to be the ticket. Don't get me wrong, VDSTS works well(for my Buell) and gets the job done, but is missing a few things as in: I'm not sure you can upload with it, for one.
Just more blather
