I recently grenaded the motor, which sent shavings throughout the oiling system. While having a new motor installed, I decided to replace the oil cooler. The tech was willing to flush the oil lines and swingarm. He thought he got at least 95% of the junk out of the swingarm. I drained the oil as soon as I got home from the dealership, a 40 mile ride. I found a 'not unexpected' amount of metal stuck to the drain plug magnet, but upon wiping it down with a rag, discovered a couple of metal fragments that are quite a bit larger than standard shavings. So now I am concerned about damaging the oil pump. I didn't see a screen in the oil pump of the old motor, but does anyone know if there is some type of screen in the swingarm to prevent larger debris from reaching the pump?

I am thinking of pulling the pump after the next drain (after one day's riding) to examine the rotor parts for scars.

95% is not clean enough.

The "tech" should have taken the oil tank/swing arm to the quarter car wash and run at least $5.00 of hot soapy water thru it and the oil lines.

They tried everything possible. They had the swingarm sitting on a parts cleaner, running a hot soapy solution through it, in different positions and for several hours. They capped off the openings and shook/swished it. They ran a magnet through it. Then they hit it with a power washer. Due to environmental regs, the shop was unable to use gas, brake cleaner or similar solvents. Had I known that limitation, I would have tried that before handing over the bike.
