Would it be possible to get someone to trace the mounting plate of their crossroads handle bars?

I have access to aluminum and wanted to make a set and save a couple of hundred dollars.

What I would like is for someone to just trace the plate that mounts to the triple tree and fax it to me (actual size).

If you already have them on your bike all you would have to do it take the 4 bolts out lift it just a little, slide a piece of paper under it and trace it. Then put the 4 bolts back in and you're finished.

Please post up if you're willing to do this for me, thanks.

i'm no lawyer, but that sounds like distributing a patented product not as the patent holder.
i too couldn't afford the xroads, so i just made my own z-bars. no patents/copyright infringement there

i think the hardest part to replicate would be the bar-mounts.

why don't ya just buy some, copy ALL the dimensions, and then turn around and sell 'em to recover your investment? at least American Sport Bike will get a cut that way.
and they won't last long in the classifieds. believe me, it seemed like somebody was always quicker than me, and i eventually gave up on acquiring a second-hand set.

but good luck with your endeavors. keep us posted on your aluminum milling

There's absolutely no copywrite/patent infringement.

I'm not making the exact same thing. I'm making something close. I'm not selling it for profit either, I'm making it for personal use.

My brother holds 4 US patents (street rod parts) and he has people "copy" his stuff all the time and there's nothing he can do.

They could make the exact same thing as his and just change the spring tension and they're in the clear.

All I'm asking for is basic outside dimensions. I will figure out everything else myself.

I'd do it for you if my bars weren't all ready mounted and I wasn't so damn lazy. I kinda want to take them off and try the stock bars, but it looks like a pain and I didn't get the top clamp when I bought the bike.
