Please humour me here. I ride a Cyclone M2. That's a carburated tuber. At some point I will be moving into a XB of some sort. Preliminary research indicates every model misses the mark a wee bit for my taste. This is what I want:
long chassis
XB9 motor with reasonable overbore
Firebolt fairing, raised up to accomodate Lightning handlebars
Detachable hardbags and top box.
Does anybody else think this might be a cool bike?

Sounds like Uly-bolts one off sport turing rig that he built from a XB12STT and a boat load of Uly parts and a firebolt fairing. Really a nice ride could be where to XB12XT came from!

Why a 9 and not a 12 motor? Shorter stroke?

A guy from C3 has a ULY with a firebolt frontend his screen name is 1313 check it looks like he may have a start on what you are wanting.

Well aside from the 9 motor, and a carburetor the uly with a firebolt fairing is the ticket.

I have a 9 crank/pistons you can put in if you really want the 9 motor, alot of extra work for less power. I do like the 9 motor for its lack of vibes, but thats about it.

That'd be me!

Here's my XB12XT with a Firebolt front fairing, CityX bars (which are needed to work with the Firebolt Fairing), and a few other choice modifications. The picture was taken during Homecoming (before Erik signed the frame) at Hal's in New Berlin.

However I must admit that my inspiration for the XT-BOLT was Steve MacKay's ULY-BOLT,

Signed up just because of this post! I've narrowed my new bike purchase down to a Sprint ST or Ulysses. I finally sat down on them this past weekend and I don't care for the sitting position of the Uly, plus I just like the look of a fairing. Everything else about the Uly is great.

1313, how difficult was the XT-bolt mod? This looks like the bike for me. I've read through Mackay's writeup, but it doesn't look like the starting bike was an XT, so there may have been some extra work involved.

Did you also do a writeup on your mods? Is it as simple as getting a Firebolt fairing with CityX bars? It appears that your ignition cylinder is also turned to face up, so it looks like there is a little more to it than that. Did you need access to a machinist shop?

Thanks for any insights you can provide.

Goblins, the Buell’s are essentially Lego bikes. All of them are interchangeable to a certain extent. I don’t know the details of going from an XT to R fairings, but the only real issues you will have are relocating the ignition, and some other minor issues related to moving the wiring. Switching the handlebars is easy, but you will need to either replace the cables or reroute them a little. The ignition is on the left of the fairing facing left, on the S and X bikes, while the R has it in the top of the triple trees facing up like a traditional sport bike.

The Ulybolt was built from a STT, which is a little more involved with converting than the XT. It is believed that the Ulybolt inspired Buell to come out with the XT : )
