I recently purchased some previously owned wheels.When I look through the center of the wheel ( without the bearings in ), the drilled out center part of the wheel is oblong? Is this normal? I think the axle rides on the inside of the bearings only
but I would rather ask and be safe.

Only the bearing surface touches the axle. no problem , just run em.
