Yeah I know, it ain't "really" a Uly but until the 1125 is ported over to a sport touring platform, the XT is the Buell I've been waiting for. I put a deposit down today on a Thrust Blue model and was told that they will start shipping to dealers the first/second week of March - although this date may actually move up a little. (I'll just have to suffer on my FXDL in the mean time.)

In the mean time, the stock market is going down the crapper so I guess I'll just have to convince my kids that college is soooo overrated.

Congrats man! : )

I have really high hopes for the XT.
If you are mainly an asphalt rider, it is I suspect, a perfect all around bike. Lots of cargo space and all the comforts and gadgetry of it's taller brother.

I bet the new suspension will be better on road than its taller brother too since it doesn't have to compromise for off road excursions : )

You have to give us a review when you get yours.
This bike is just as exciting to me as the 1125R is.

Thanks Metal!

You've described my situation to a tee - I'm strictly a pavement prince so I don't need the extra suspension of the Uly (or the extra height) but I want a bike with some creature comforts and carrying capacity. I actually had an '08 GS on order and canceled it literally within minutes of seeing the 12XT announcement and with my previous experience with Firebolts and Lightnings, I didn't hesitate to put down the deposit on the XT sight unseen.

I do plan to take the topcase off though. I'm hoping the mounting bracket can be easily removed.

I think I know someone who'd be interested in that top case! I'll PM him.

I'm not looking to get rid of the topcase - I'll probably end up using it from time to time - but I don't plan to keep it installed full time.

As a University graduate, not working in my field of study, the education was definitely over rated. Should have bought a bike, traveled and written a book about it, I would have more interesting stories to tell than I got drunk at Gatta Eiota Pie

just leave the top mounting bracket on and take the top case off, thats what I do. Plus the bracket give you something to use to tie down items that won't fit in the side cases.

If you do start playing the remove and reinstall brackets game, remember to use locktite! Don't ask me how I know.
